Default Input data on factory nav while moving?

This is probably a repost, but I read on another post that this was possible through some slight modification to the factory nav. I did a search but couldn't find anything. I just wanted to know if this was true, and if so how it is achieved.

Here's a thread on a simple mod to enable input while moving on the Infinity FX 35/45 navigation system. Should be a way to do the same for the 350Z NAV system, since it's a similar unit. -

Our NAV system can be modified similarly to the posted thread. The connector information, however, is NOT correct for our vehicle. You'll need to interrrupt pin 8 on connector B104 on the back of the NAV controller (NAV DVD) to do it like posted in the Infinity post.

But there may be an easier way... The speed sense signal for the NAV is generated from the CAN (Car Area Network). The control for this is that white box right below the HU and NAV screen that also controls the Heat / AC dampers and motors.

I think this can quite easy... splicing a wire right in the center console, with a little toggle switch in the border around the NAV screen instead of at the NAV controller.

I would love to hear more about this mod if anyone has any more info. Some step-by-step instructions would be most helpful

It was easy to do on my FX45. The NAV unit is under the passenger seat. I just cut the wire and ran both ends to a toggle switch that I have on the console. I plan to do the same with my 350ZR when it comes in (23 more days!). It shouldn't be hard to get to the back of the NAV unit, I hope, and find pin B8. I'll post pics when I get it done.

finally, some good info and help with the nav system. good job people

now another pain is that startup screen. i find myself closing the nav door on short trips just so i wont have to push the "i agree" thing.

whats the fix for bypassing that startup screen? if one exists.

I'm willing to bet that you cannot bypass that screen. I'm bummed too.

I got my ZR last week and I'm ready to do the mod. I'll post pics too. I could use some help though from someone who has the service manual.
1. Does the panel that surrounds the DVD/NAV just pop out. I really couldn't even wedge a small screwdriver in there. I know that I'm stonger than the plastic and don't won't to tear it up the first week!
2. I need to know the wire assignments. I assume that there are 2 sets of wires plugged in like on the FX
TIA

Richard,

I've been waiting for you to get your ZR so you could lead the way

1. Perhaps the following link (first post perhaps?) would be of help: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=26598

2. I have the service manual in PDF format that I'll try to throw up somewhere for you.

I have the fsm if you guys need any guidance...

Is anyone willing to cut/splice the speed sense wire (Connector B104, Terminal 8, Color L/B) which is located at the DVD NAV Control unit OR at the unified meter/navi control box (Connector M49, Terminal 34, Color W/G). I think interrupting the speed sense signal will allow you to make changes to the nav setup.

Can someone try this and report back... I have my Z in storage, but I may get it out this weekend and I can try this out...

Jaw: I got the email yesterday. Sorry it took 2 days. My ISP filtered it out as spam. If you look on page 92, step 1 references another pdf. If you could upload that pdf it would be great. I bought a CD with the manual on ebay the other day for $1 and $9 handling and hopefully it will come soon. I looked at the "how to" post to see how the plastic in the back comes off. It looks like the quarter panels come off , then the long black piece. Guess it's time to take the new ride apart
