Is anyone using this set-up for their radar/laser detection? From my understanding it has to use the SmartCord Live to connect to the detector. But how is this done with the cigarette lighter behind our seats?

I've been keeping an eye on this. There are some good reviews about it, but it relies on other people having Escort Live. It's a social networking police trap app, basically. It would depend solely on the amount of people in your area using it, and reporting with it. That's what holds me back from it, honestly. Otherwise, you just have a cig-lighter powered Escort like the rest of us.

 

And that is what is upsetting me about it. I don't want a wire running across the middle of my car. If they had a direct/hard wire kit for it I would get it.

 

You could always cut the plugin off and hard wire it in to a fused source

 

Depending on the compatible Escort or Beltronics detector that you have, or plan to get, Escort Live offers several features other than Live alerts (alerts from other Escort Live users). For instance when using the Passport X50 or RedLine with Escort Live you will gain:

- TrueLock false alert elimination. Simply select "lockout" on the app when you receive a false alert and it will remember the frequency and location of that false alert, store it, and no longer alert you to it. You will still be alerted to other signals in that area.

- Red light and camera alerts. Escort Live includes alerts to all fixed location cameras throughout North America. The database is updated weekly on the cloud. You do not need to update anything to receive the latest locations.

- Speed display and speed limit data. The app displays your current speed and the speed limit for many roads across North America.

Many driving and detector enthusiasts are pairing the RedLine, our most sensitive detector, to Escort Live to enjoy these features, which are included in the best-selling Passport 9500ix, along with RedLine's extreme detection range.

Live alerts are an extra level of protection over normal detector alerts. Laser and instant-on radar are hard to defend against unless you detect someone ahead of you being targeted. Should an Escort Live user be targeted then this alert will be sent to other Escort Live users in the area. The alert fades away after an hour or more so that you are not presented with useless information.

About modifying the SmartCord Live cord, the bluetooth equipped cord required to use Escort Live with your detector and smartphone. Please do not cut the cord. It is a very advanced power cord loaded with it's own processor, memory, and bluetooth. We will be releasing a direct wire installed version of the cord in the next month or so. Some are using aftermarket female lighter plugs to "install" the current plug-in style cord.

Escort Live is compatible with Escort's RedLine, 9500ix, and most X50s (call for X50 compatibility). It is also compatible with Beltronics' STi Driver, STi Magnum, GX65, and most RX65s (call for RX65compatibility). An adapter for the following installed systems should be available in the coming months: Passport 9500ci, Beltronics STi-R Plus.

I'm looking at the Escort 9500ix with iPhone Escort Live. However on the '03 350Z lighter is no where near the windshield. Hence the reason I want a direct wire.
