hey guys,

so my headunit is pretty freaking bright at night and theres even a dimmer option and when its on it doesnt really turn it down much, i know my headunit had a specific wire for the dimmer so im wondering if there is a way to tap into the instrument brightness control (buttons on the left side by gas guage) so when i dim all the gauges and that the headunit would dim too

if anyone has done this that would be great or at least knows the color of the wire (if there is one) to tap into

Yes it can be done. Did you search the audio section? Also, assuming you have an aftermarket head unit, it should have dimmer settings in the menu or you can get a patch harness that puts all the wires to the stock harness where they belong.

I am not sure, but think it is a voltage wire that tells the gauges to dim that is connected to the parking lights, meaning when the wire sees voltage it dims eveything. I know its under the left side of the steering wheel but my wiring is so custom at this point I can't say what color.

 

Orange wire on the wire harness is a "dimmer" wire. connect that to a source that is dimmed when lights are turned on.
