Default Sub in wheel well v. Bose location

From what I've read, the sub in the wheel well will sound much better than in the Bose location. I'm wondering if I can get a cheap box and drop it down in there with some pillow stuffing or something. I can't afford to get a custom fiberglass enclosure down there since then I couldn't get the components I want. Do you think it's possible to get a cheap rig down there, in the $75-$100 range, or should I just settle and put a crap box in the bose location?

Any idea the measurements (L, W, H) of the spare tire area? I currently have a Diamond 15 in a box in back, but when I hit big bumps, my box hops some, thinking about relocating to tire area.
