gonna sound stupid =/ but how do these boxes get installed under the bar in the back ? any install guides pics ect?

 

I will write you a guide right now:
Step one: Run wires from your amp to the area under the strut.
Step two: install sub in box, running wires to the side terminal cups.
Step three: put sub in box into the hatch of your car right behind the strut (ie further towards the back of the car)
Step four: Connect previously run wires to terminal cup with subwoofer leads connected to it.
Step five: Shove under strut bar, making sure wiring does not get pinched.
Step six: Close hatch and enjoy the massive amount of cabin gain our cars have.

 

...it doesnt just shove under the strut bar

Lol this is ridiculous, I just had this exact same problem over the weekend. It doesn't just slide under, what you have to do is remove the plastic piece on the underside of the strut bar, it's one piece that has four poppers that resides right underneath. As soon as you pull that out you can wedge the enclosure under there and then you can't even notice that you had to pull the panel out. It fits great for me, doesn't slide at all and you can't tell anything is missing.

 

Maybe the carpet is too thick? Do you have that extra trunk mat over the base carpet?

 

Mine fit just fine? I have two trunk carpets installed also (not sure if this was how Z came stock or not?). Mine fits snug enough not to move, but with enough room to move in or out with relative ease?

 

Nah, not the carpet (I thought that too, I have all three mats) it's the plastic underside of the strut bar. Remove that and you're golden

sorry I guess every box is different. MY BAD SIR. Maybe he can just check his own when he gets it and see if it slides in instead of having to remove parts.

these are not bolted down at all? Do they slide around when you take off or stop really fast?

 

Mine hasn't moved yet.

 

it should be a snug fit, you don't want it to slide out when warp speed engages,

no plastics covers were removed and there's really nothing to secure the box with.

 

I have a DE with bolt ons.... have yet to achieve warp speed lol

 

So I know the general consensus seems to be just buy one of these sub boxes, but does anyone know the actual measurements to make your own? I'd like to save a little coin if I could, and I think it might be a cool project for my father and I to work on one afternoon. I've Googled around and searched here and can't find actual specs.

However, I have little "handy man" skills and I'd have no idea how to figure out what angle the curve should be on the sides.

They also make a box for a single 12" or single 15". You will have to remove the spare tire though.

 

If they were authentic Zenclosures you DO NOT need to remove any plastic. Mind you
lots of ebay sellers selling similar products that might not fit right. Basically do what
