I know in the Miata's Bose uses half ohm speakers making it impossible to replace the head unit and use the stock speakers. No biggy as I would prefer to keep the stock unit for now in my Z. I guess I should ask first, does the Zs Bose system have the same 1/2 ohm style speakers?

Moving on....

Is the auto volume thing only in the amp? If I replace my stock Bose amp and speakers BUT keep the head unit will the auto volume thing get in the way?

Also, anyone have any diagrams on where all this crap is located?

Like, what tweeters I can fit in the stock A-Pillars location? The amp, etc? Can I put an aftermarket sub in the location of the Bose one without any mods?

I don't know the answers to all your questions since I don't have the Bose (mine's a Track model), but, here's what I do know:

I believe the stock front speakers are a standard 4 ohm but the rears are 32 ohm. I suppose this is to improve the imaging by making the rears quieter.

Not sure where the circuitry for the auto-volume thing is located, but I am fairly sure that you can not replace the Bose amp without special line-out converters because the Bose crap has a differential input (or something like that, this is from a failing memory).

I know for sure there's an amp underneath the foam on the driver's side of the spare tire area. I believe there's another in the sub area. You can fit 1" tweeters into the stock sail panel. I put JLs in mine and didn't even have to modify anything, except to wrap the factory bracket with electrical tape so that it would hold the tweeter in there securely. The JL mounting brackets do not fit unless you cut the little screw posts out. According to most of the people on here, the stock sub location is not optimum for good sound. I highly recommend a trunk-mounted rear-firing sub. My system has one (a JL 10W7 in Nazar's fiberglass box) and it sounds wonderful. The stock sub location is best used for amp racks and stuff like that.

Are there in line crossovers on the stock speaker wires.. Can I tap my amp into the exsisting wire or should i run new
