Default Amp Guard?

hey guys i just installed an audison sr1dk mono amp powering my two av10s and an audison sr4 multi channel amp powering the other four speakers. it was working all fine and dandy. for a few days. then today i get an AMP GUARD message on my head unit which is turning off the power to the amps. does anyone know why? i ran new speaker wire to all the speakers. i am using rcas from the head unit to the amps then 12 AWG speaker wire to the speakers. i did not cut the old speaker wires from the amp i just left them hooked up. is this possibly causing it? i also have both amps grounded to a hole in the trunk. im thinking that maybe it is a bad ground more then anything. any suggestions?

What size amp kit did you install it with? The only thing I can think of is your ground for the amps as well. The Head Unit shouldn't be able to turn off the amps (usually its all the same wire, if the HU is off, the amps are off, and vice verse), but it can stop sending an RCA signal to them so they don't draw much current. If you ground is bad and SOMEHOW the signal is getting grounded back through the RCAs the headunit might recognize that and try and protect itself.

I know if a speaker wire on a Kenwood touches ground the unit will shut off and display "protect" on the screen to keep you from burning it up.... What kind of radio do you have? And more importantly, did you insulate the unused powered speaker leads from eatch other and ground (tape them up)?
