How old is too old for a sound system?
These age threads seem to pop up all the time.
So I was curious how this one would go.
I'm 35 and I can't stand a crappy sound system in a car.
So this week I'm getting a nice component set installed along with a custom sub box for 1-10" JL sub along with two amps installed in my roadster.
Now this system is far from my younger days where I would want to be heard from blocks away but I feel nothing beats a nice sound system and a little bass while cruising around, something the factory Bose system failed to achieve.

bose = fail…
I don't see this contributing to the social problem…think quality, not quantity...

I like listening to music from the '60s the way it sounded in my '54 Ford, so the Bose system in my '08 works pretty well for me.
All it needs is a vibrator under the dash to complete the picture. I had to teach my GFs how to thump it just right to get it going.

Good for you!
The Bose system in the Z leaves a lot to be desired for those who the
sound system is important.Others,its O.K.
One thing I can share concerning installing a aftermarket(improved)system
in a convert, the acoustics are pretty bad compared to a fixed top.I've had
several cars with factory systems that out performed drop tops with custom
set ups.Besides quality of the components, you'll need the watts to make
it sound good.Especially when your top is down.I owned a Alfa Spider.Awful
stock system.Took it to the best shop in town.Told them to put the best stuff
available(at that time)in the car.The install was perfect.Best of everything.
However,I was disapointed on the results of the overall sound. There is just
lousy accoustics in the cabin with a soft top and little space to tweak the sound.
Good luck

I find most standard systems in cars pretty crap and find the best way is to build a system to your own spec.I didn't think the Bose system in the Coupe 350 that bad really, just a bit woolly in the midrange and very little on top. The beauty of building your own system is that the sky's the limit, as long as you have a pretty full wallet

No i don't think Bose is that bad at all but as with anything it cold be better. What i like about it is having my back massaged by the sub-woofer when i heve the volume turned up with some bass heavy music.

I bought my car a few months ago so I don't know what the Bose system sounded like new. However my opinion is of a 8 year old system that the sub struggles and sounds like crap most of the time then again IMO most free air woofers do and for me having a roadster I just need the speakers to be a little louder when the top is down. i'm hoping the new speakers will do the trick along with hooking them up to a amp.
The stuff will be installed Wednesday I'll let everyone know what I think. Hopefully it wasn't a waste of money lol!

The standard system is not really that good. And i have heard Bose systems in other cars. For what Bose i made up to be they are really not that impressive. Only system i really liked from factory was a JBL system in a Toyota. It was really clear. And had a little bass to it.
I already put a new HU in my Z. Working on swapping out all the speakers now. I'm only 21. I had a car with 2 12" 1200W subs. It was stupid. Quality is all that matters. Z will only get a 10" sub around 300-500W.

sold an 05 with bose in it and every time I made any kind of a right turn it would cut out and come back on, was really annoying. It didn't do it when I made left turns lol. All connections were good I guess it was inside the unit. I ripped it out anyway for alpine then put it back in it to sell the car. I told the new owner and he just laughed since he had aftermarket to put in it anyways.

Depends how much of an audiophile you are. I think the Bose is decent. It is not very good stock as it lacked bass, but once I added a 10" JLW6V2-D4 in the back, everything worked itself out. The Bose has decent highs if I crank it up. Not much distortion compared to my last car (but i'm no audiophile). I also swapped out to a double din headunit as well (Alpine INA-W910), so may have made the sound a lil bit better to begin with. Either way play around. I'd say an aftermarket subwoofer is pretty needed if anything.

I'm 41 now and ditched the Bose as quickly as I could. It might be the worse "premium" audio system I've heard. Then again I've always swapped out the stereo in my vehicles and run a full 5.1 surround system at home. Life's too short for crappy sound. I currently have just one 8" (swapping for a 10" one day), a set of decent components, a 500 watt class D Kicker amp and Alpine's Imprint system.

As i got older I went from wanting a SPL system to a SQ system. Back when I was younger it was all about running 2 18"'s with a crap load of power to shake the HELL out of everything. Now it is all about AUDIOPHILE sound.
I'm 37 now and I'm about to do a system in the Viper. Never did like the Bose with was in my 350Z Roadster. Sounded weak as hell. I wanted to do a system in that car but the fact it was a vert, stopped me.

I am 34, and the system I put in the Z was all about SQ. Back in the day I would spend the majority of money on the subs and sub amp. Last two systems I did, spent 300+ on front components and less then 100 on two tens lol.

I got my stuff installed last week and and I couldn't be happier, the 1-10" sounds great and the components sounds amazing! I have roadster and I can now hear my music loud and clear doing 80 on the freeway windows down and all!
I'm really surpirsed how much bass kicks out for 1-10" in the trunk of convertible.
