thump sound from my sub
I did research on what the cause of the thumping sound coming from the sub, and all I saw was that check my ground wire but that's fine.
When I turn my car on my sub makes a heartbeat or thump sound. The amp (kenwood) light blinks when it thumps. Any idea what the problem is? I have a kicker sub and I checked the indash but there was no loose wire and also checked amp fuse, so any ideas?

It stays on when I turn the car on. It's never did it before, and also the sub doesn't bump of course when music is on.
Anyways update I looked at my sub when I turn it on and I saw little smoke coming out from it. So I took the sub apart and it's smoking a little so that's probably the cause. So you think I need new subs or can fix it?

1) correct wire gauge, yes? High out and small wire=high resistance, heat.
2) impedance from amp matches rating on sub?
Generally people are asking about a thump on turn off.
What model kicker? How many subs? What model amp?
Smoking means the coil got hot. Doesn't mean anything is broken though.
What are your gains set to? Don't give me physical settings, I want voltages.

The Kenwood is actually 300W at 14.4V, so anything lower than that and you have even less power.
That sub is rated 400W.
My guess is the bass boost and gains are cranked way up to get output from it and you've mostly cooked the sub. I've seen it many times.
The Z is also wonderful at masking distortion from the sub.

Uh, according to Kenwood it's a 300W amp.

That picture doesn't tell me anything. I don't know where the **** is when it's rotated all the way counter clockwise and I don't know the line voltage on your preout.
Physical position of the **** means nothing. Output voltage tells you where to set it.
Also, max power means nothing to anybody. RMS is the only thing to look at.
