Hey guys,

I’d like to install a wireless backup camera. My main goal here is to avoid running wires from front to back.

I would power the camera from the reverse light.

Question is where can I tap in the reverse light power cable so the HU switches to the backup camera input when I’m in reverse?

I read that people run cables from the HU to the rear of the car, but surely this could be done at the front?

Any input would be appreciated!

From the wires at the reverse light itself.
Remove the panel in the trunk for easy access. I think the color is light green. I did mine a while ago. Just test the wires while someone puts the car into reverse.
Stand on the side just in case car moves

 

Thanks Beezee, but surely the same wire should be accessible not too far from the Head unit? I do not want to run a wire to the back of the car.

If no one has tapped in it around the front of the car before I might need to trace it out from the fuse box.

 

my advice is to NOT install a backup camera...unless it comes from the factory, people who install these are tools...

Could possibly have a nominee for poster with the stupidest comment ever on this site.

 

Light green on DEs (not sure if it's the same for HR) in the driver's side kick panel. There's a thick harness with black wrap, cut that open and find your light green wire.

Edit: Make sure you test the wire..

What's the best and less intrusive way to test the wire? splicing?

 

DMM or test light, test the wire for +12 volts when you put your car in reverse.

 

Cool, I have a multimeter, I was just wondering about the less intrusive way to test the wire without butchering it

Found this picture from another post, do you happen to know which harness to cut into to get to the light green cable? I'd like to avoid trial and error on this one . There's also an exposed light green cable going straight into that black box, I'm assuming this ain't it?

The light green wire will be in one of those two wrapped up wire harnesses. It's in the one that is running to the rear, which should be the one on the left.
