Default Better stereo mount than Metra?

Howdy y'all, I'm putting a Pioneer AVH-P3200BT double din head unit in my '04 Z, and after getting fit as well as it will allow, I'm realizing that this mount kit is just terrible. There are 2-3mm gaps pretty much all the way around the head unit. Is there a better mount kit out there or is this something that I just have to live with?

Thanks,
SoS

you can try best kits

I have used both

both work

may need a bit of finessing to get an OEM result

did you follow instructions perfectly and how is your experience level at installing

I actually have the same question....

I just bought an '04 (Touring) Z...(4 weeks ago)...(Bose "premium" sound system & Nav)
and have an appointment with the installer this Wednesday, to put in a new Pioneer AVH-X4600BT using the same Metra Kit (99-7402)

While they are different decks...the dimensions appear to be the same
Pioneer AVH-P3200BT Dimensions 17.7 (W) x 10.0 (H) x 16.5 (D) cm
Pioneer AVH-X4600BT Dimensions 17.8 (W) x 10.0 (H) x 16.5 (D) cm

Anyway...this has got me a little concerned as I too, want it to look as OEM as possible...

I am now wondering if I should try to improvise and find some kind of thin black rubber "gasket/ring/tubing" to wrap around the HU to close any gaps...
and/or notify my installer that this may be a problem and get his advice

Is it possible to post a photo or 2 of your install that shows the extent of the gapping ?

Will definitely monitor this thread and post any solutions either I or my installer can come up with...

Thanks!

I have installed many stereo systems in many vehicles. The Metra kit 99-7402 has the absolute worst fitment of any kit I have seen. It only fits on the stereo one way with the stock double-din brackets, and it leaves visible 2-3mm gaps virtually all the way around. I could literally shove CDs under the head unit.
The top bezel lip also bows out and doesn't line up with the rest of the dash. I'm thinking of ordering a Scosche.

I will take some pics of the fitment some time today.

Here are some pics:

This one shows the gap along the bottom. The gap is 2-3mm wide. 2 stacked CDs will fit in there without touching the top or bottom. It also shows more gapping in the corner and along the bottom edge of the bezel.

This one shows where the top lip of the bezel bulges out:

The whole thing is just really terrible.

^^^ Thanks for taking the time to post the photo's...

I am going to forward them along to my installer...(and see if he can suggest some kind of cosmetic fix...)

Will be back...

That's part of the problem. There is only 1 way they fit. I'll check it out again this weekend, but I spent a LOT of time trying out different screw holes. I will probably try a different kit.

I'm using factory brackets that I picked up from ebay. There are only 4 holes in the brackets and they only line up with 4 holes in the stereo. I will double check that this weekend, but I'm pretty sure. I checked it and my brother double checked it.

What mount kit did you use? That looks WAY better than mine.

EDIT: The brackets I picked up on ebay were listed for an 06, while mine is an 04. From what I have read online, the brackets are the same for 03-08 so they *should* be just fine. If someone knows otherwise, please let me know.

Thanks. It says 06-08, but I ordered it anyway. I can probably make some combination of parts work better than it currently is. If not, I'm only out ~$15, so no big deal.

The reason why it does not sit flush is because you picked up an 06 or newer dash kit. 04's dont curve at the corners on the bottom. They are squared all around.

06 dash kit notice how the bracket curves at the corner?

04 dash is squared all around

this is what i got:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-20...N-Kit/23841940

you can order them from walmart and pick up in store.

The only problem I had with the kit is that on my pioneer dash (The same one travlee posted). The screen, when you press the eject button, slides up and out. When mine would slide up, it would hit the bracket. IDK if your pioneer is the same. But if so, you will have to find a way to mount it farther out like travs picture.

oh and that kit utilizes the factory metal brackets so thats good that you picked those up. Also, if you are not able to mount the stereo with the screw locations on the metal brackets, just use electrical tape and wrap it up haha. Or you can drill holes. Just make sure it can open and close before you put everything back in.

me personally i wouldnt tape it.... those vents are there for a reason and since it is already a small space i wouldnt want it to get any hotter than it already does.. just me though

i know on my radio there were several different locations when you could attach the bracket, the manufacturers do that because not every car is the same.

There are areas on the stereo where there are no vents. If he wants to do it right he can order this:

but not sure about fitment... plus I hate them plastic mounts/ears...

I was talking about using the ears from the kit. Not the face plate sorry.
