Nissan "stock" alarm is more like a "keyless entry system with some alarm features." adding an aftermarket alarm does not void your warranty. My DEI aftermarket system work independantly from the factory system.
Search for forum, there are certain security flaws(weakness) with the factory system.
VIN etching may get you insurance discount. but $600 sounds too much.

I've never heard of 'automate' but from the instruction manual it looks like it is a DEI product, which is a very good thing. DEI makes alarms under about a million different names, and they all have the same layout on the front page of the users manual. I would still like to see a pic of the keyfob!

i dont know what a keyfob is...is it a black pad with #'s like a telephone? if so then i dont have one.

if its that black module that has the sensitivity then i will next time i go under there, i have to remove the panel and ****,dont wanna do that right now.

if its the alarm part on the key chain then its the same as stock.

if thats none of them, then please let me know!

A keyfob is the transmitter that attaches to your keychain.

It uses the same as the factory alarm? That is strange, but not unbelievable because I know that DEI makes 'factory' alarms for GM and they use GM syled remotes.

so is this good or bad...i mean this alarm goes off ALL THE TIME. extremely sensitive. if you shake the car a little bit it honks and all that. it seems like a good alarm.

I consider alarms that go off too often to be alarms that are not setup properly. Most likely you have an adjustable shock sensor and I would try turning it down a bit. You only want your alarm making noises when something is going on with your car. Too many false alarms and you will not even bother to check your car when it is getting broken in to.

This is just my oppinion and everyone is entitled to thier own. I have met people who want thier shock sensor set so sensitive the wind sets it off. To each thier own...

If you look on this page, a guy is selling an Auto Mate alarm on e-bay. Starting bid is $35.00

very true. I know about the shock sensor i actually put it up all the way. You are right that some people might just say its another false alarm when theyre really getting robbed. i dont think ill ever be like that. its garage kept and i dont bring it to stores or anything so itll be alright.

thanks for all your input, i appreciate it.

I found a different Automate alarm on Ebay a few days ago, but this is the first I have seen this one. I can tell you that it IS a DEI product from the quality card inside the box. Also, it has the same LED, valet and door lock wires. $35? I think I might just bid on it....

Hey NY350z,
I see you got your car from Nissan of Garden City, So did I, I just took it for its 1st oil change Yesterday(saturday). There was alot of customers there, but they were done in about an hour. They didnt try to sell me anything extra except the entended warranty when I got it. I guess because it was superbowl sunday when I bought it. LOL

The tach? For what? There is another thread on this forum all about hooking the tach wire up, with pictures! Feel free to contact me, even though I don't actually own a Z I do seem to know quite a lot about them.....

I bought the Automate alarm on Ebay!

I had a PM from a DEI dealer who told me that DEI is selling thier AutoMate line to OEMs.... So it is definately DEI!

pretty sure the company starts with an "a"

Holy Sh*t!! For $600 i could have hooked you up with a Clifford Rs 2.5 with a motion detector and glass break sensor! Its the second from the top of the line Clifford with a two way paging system. too bad you're all the way in NY. If anyone in the SF Bay Area need an alarm for their Z, let me know. Dont pay that kind of money for essentially a keyless entry. Throw me $20 extra and ill take a diamond tip pen and etch whatever you want on your windows too! haha.

Edit: i believe the automate can be upgraded to a full alarm system. Im not exactly sure about the "OEM" ones, but all of the ones ive seen so far with that name has the necessary wires for upgrades. Hope this helps.

I would imagine that is what they charged him for. I think he has a full alarm that works with the lock/unlock pulses. There is no reciever in the alarm though, so no dedicated transmitters....

I installed the Automate alarm I bought off of Ebay in my sisters car. For the price I paid I couldn't be happier. It is the exact same setup of the Viper alarms, but, to my surprise it seemed to have more features. I have never seen a Viper alarm with priority door locking, but the automate had this capability. It also had 3 Aux channels, one was validity only, one was programmable, and I'm not sure about the third. The only thing I didn't like about it is the cheap plastic cases on the transmitter. But, being the resourceful person that I am I had some extra cases laying around. The actual circuit board in the transmitter is the exact same as DEI used for the past 2 or so years. So, swapping cases was easy.
