Install Questions...
This is my first post, so hello...
I don't have a Z yet, but I'll be picking one up rather soon... most likely Silverstone with Burnt Orange...
Anyway, I was wondering how tough it would be to take my 3 Infinity Perfect 10.1's, Perfect 6.1 and JL Audio 6w0 setup from my current vehicle and move them into the Z...
I'm running a Pioneer DEX-P9/DEQ-P9 setup with a Pioneer Premier 6-disc changer... I understand the Z uses Double DIN so that's not a problem... is there room up front to mount or store the DEQ processor anywhere? The optical cable it uses is only about 3 feet long so I don't have much to work with...
Will mounting my mid-bass JL's behind me affect the sound quality that much? I assume I can just use my digital time delay to make them sound like they're up front... I do not want to do kick panels though...
Lil' help would be great...
Thanks,
~Lance

first off, welcome to the boards.
second off, nice choice on color! silverstone is beautiful!
the swap of audio equipment shouldn't be difficult at all.
the headunit can be installed easily with the metra dash kit, or a custom kit a shop can make for you if the metra doesn't please you. there is also a guy that makes an aluminum trim panel with a nice laser cut Z and the trademark squares. you should be able to find those if you search the audio threads.
i'm not sure what the depth of the deq-p9 is but you could mount it in the tray under the din unit in the metra kit or with the aluminum trim panel make a mount under the unit somehow. that shouldn't be too hard. you could also mount it in the stock navi compartment, assuming you aren't getting the navi system and also depending on the length of it.
for the perfect 10.1's you can get a good car audio shop to make you a fiberglass box for between the strut bar and the back seats or for under the strut bar. Nazar is known for making really nice fiberglass boxes for the Z, though i think they are made for JL sub specs, but it can't hurt to talk to him about it. if you search the threads you'll find lots of information about his boxes and where you can reach him.
The perfect 6.1's will go in the doors without a problem except you need to make a 1 inch spacer. some people have made custom spaces and others (like me) just cut the stock speaker out of it's mount and used that to mount the speakers in. worked perfect for me to use the stock speaker spacer and i'm using the perfect 6.1's also. if you are looking to run new wires to the doors it's a bit of a pain in the ***, but it's definitely doable. this having been my first complete audio install it took me a good portion of two days, including the fabrication of a temp box and amp rack behind the drivers seat.
as for the jl6w0's you could prob mount these in the stock locations behind the seats but you'd need to fabricate something to mount the 6 inchers since the stock space is for 6.5 inch speakers. i'm not sure how sq is for putting speakers back there as i chose to just disconnect the stock rears and have all my mids and highs coming from the front. i did not like the idea of adding kick panels (thought about doing so for my perfects) because i noticed in Z's that ive sat in with the kick panels that they intrude on the foot space in front of the dead pedal.
hope that helps you with your transition into your Z somewhat. if you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

Rajiv:
I'm going to be running all new stuff, and most likely removing the stock stuff. After ripping my current install apart (which was done by someone, for the most part) I'm finding that this $500 install was really probably worth about $50.
Here's what I'll be installing - let me know what you think...
Headunit: Pioneer Premier DEX-P9 (single DIN, silver color with light blue EL display)
CD Changer: Pioneer Premier CDX-PD6 6-disc In-dash (Single DIN unit)
Processor: Pioneer Preimier DEQ-P9 Digital Signal Processor and general audio toy (probably throw it in the back of the dash or something... it's about 8"x12"x2". I've got about a 3 foot range on the cables.
Front speakrs: Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1's minus X-over
Rear Speakers: JL Audio 6w0's mounted in stock position, only because the DEQ-P9 uses a 3channel front setup. They will be time-delayed to sound as if they're firing in conjunction with the front components.
Subs: 3 10" Infinity Kappa Perfects
Amps: I have no idea... I'm using Boss Audio right now, albeit the higher end boss stuff, which comparitivly is still nothing... I was thinking about going with the Phoenix Gold Octane R's, but I don't know...
All of the misc power and signal stuff I want to run seperately so I'll have to figure all that out... is it possible to keep the power and signal cables on opposite sides of the car or do they need to run down that center tunnel deal...?
Hopefully I'll actually have this car in the coming weeks here, assuming that I can A.) find one that I want or B.) it doesn't take 6 months to order one.
Thanks again,
~Lance

all of your equipment is awesome. you should have a banging system once it's all installed.
as far as all the wiring goes, you can run the power from the battery to the back down the passenger side of the car.
the speaker wires and rca can either run down the center tunnel or down the driver side of the car (thats how i did it because i didn't know about the way it could be done through the center tunnel when i did my install)
ill warn you now that getting new wires to the doors, while not impossible, is not at all fun to do. i used 12 gauge but would recommend to use 14 or 16 gauge instead, it would make the job a lot easier.
it's really easy to pull off all the plastic and find place for the wires to go.
hope you are able to get your car soon. i dont think it should be too hard to locate one on a dealers lot now. even at the gainesville dealership, which i think is a pretty remote location, there are around 5 cars on the lot for sale.
