XM sat radio in an 04 roadster
I was reading on edmunds that xm or sirius was offered as a new option on 04 Z cars, but the nissan website doesnt mention this. Also, it was not offered to me on my 04.
Anyone know if the bose radio is compatible with this ?
thanks

You can get the factory kit from:

They have great prices and service. I just bought an XM Commander for my 03.

When I ordered my 04, I went back and forth on options (to include XM) and roadster v. the coupe HT. Per my Northern Virginia dealer, XM was not available on the roadster due to the difficulties of locating the XM antenna. Nissan's "factory" antenna install is pretty underwhelming and I actually had my dealer install a Terk M3 for me on the rear right corner of my roof. While I know that the coupe's are pre-wired for XM (I have a Touring), I don't know if the Roadster's would be since Nissan did not come up with a factory install for XM on the 350ZR. At issue would be whether Nissan has separate wiring harnesses for the Z coupe and the ZR. Seems unlikely. There is no question that the roadster can be modified to accept a XM or Sirius receiver. Even the Roady in my daughter's Honda has more flexibility than my OEM system which is a Bose head with a Clarion satellite receiver.
Does anyone have the factory kit installed? Is it better to go with the factory kit or another kit such as the XM Commander? I'm looking into getting a satallite radio within the next month or so and would like to here your guys' opinions.
I have Nissan's XM option installed in my Touring. Receiver module is actually installed in the very back of the car, inside the wall liner, just beside the right light assembly. The factory antenna install would be a Clarion antenna that looks very much like the Terk M1 antenna. IF done as Nissan planned, you'd have this fist looking antenna extending from the right edge of your roof going against the stream line of the antenna. In short, pretty stupid looking. My dealer used, instead, a Terk XM M3 antenna which is in the rear right corner of the roof. It is low profile, has no drop-outs. This accommodation is required because the gap between the hatch and roof is so darn close. It opens up a bit on the sides and that allowed it to be put there.
Once the XM function is enabled on your BOse system you get only limited data. You must manually cycle through channel names, artist's name and song name. With a Delphi Roady you get it in one panel display. I opted for factory so that it'd be neat and clean and interfaced with my Nav system. Reflectively, I wish I'd opted for a non OEM install. Dumb...and $400. you can do better for less at an audio store I think. Good luck.
