Default Thinking of ditching my Bose

So the Bose system in my 35th Anniversary edition is... meh. Thinking about upgrading. My main question is, is it just the head unit that is the weak link, or do the sub and/or speakers need to go to?

Since I'm already posting, any recommendations would be appreciated. Will probably go satellite radio if I upgrade. Navigation is cool, but unless I can run the Waze app through the head unit somehow, I'll be using my phone for navigation. Don't store music on my phone, but bluetooth call capability would be nice.

Lose it all. Even an inexpensive headunit and moderately-priced speakers will sound better, and give you more features. Do you have an Apple or Android phone?

Replace the H/U, speakers, external amplifier and the SubW.

The Z's OEM Bose "upgrade" is a proprietary system that is very difficult to upgrade using individual components.

A headunit like this would be a good start:

Front & Rear speakers:

Moderately-priced <$500, and you can add on amplification and a subwoofer later on. There are an infinite number of combinations you might come up with, so this is just an example, and the guys at Crutchfield can offer more advice.

Yeah, I've been looking into replacing the entire Bose system. It's not expensive and would be a huge improvement.
