Need Advice on Ripoff Install
Dude that sucks and I really feel for you. I too recommend going to their district office if you want some compensation.
Can I ask what model the Optima yellow top is that fits our cars, I noticed it on your install?

Charles,
Thanks for your patience while I sorted through this issue. I have spoken to my regional manager and he informed me that I am not able to act on behalf of Car Toys in this scenario. I am to refer you him if you have any questions or if you would like to escalate the issue. He will be out of town until Tuesday the 20th. He will be able to take a call then if you concerns here is his number at his office.
hanks again for your patience,
Ryan McCann

I KNOW we severed our relationship, I WILL NEVER do business with Car Toys ever again. You charged me $2000 for a custom install and CUT CORNERS installing wiring. You could have potentially burned my car down along with myself and my family.
I understand I signed that liability letter. But you know what, ITS was for the scratches and damaged panels, THAT'S IT. What was I suppose to do, Have you tear my car apart and look for the shady/faulty writing, PLEASE!!!
How was I suppose to know I was missing clips that are hidden under the panels.
Remember one thing, It was a brand new car. Just think how you would want to be treated and served if you were a paying CUSTOMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL I Asked for was for my 10" box back THAT YOU THREW AWAY and $90 for the faulty wiring, and to replace my clips. Is that too much to ask for, I THINK NOT!
CAR TOYS will lose a lot more in future business.
ITS CALLED SHADY BUSINESS and I will let everyone I know of about my experience with your store.
AND WHAT about my missing clips, 10 of them to be exact. You as a manager only wanted to replace those, do you remember that????????
You are just as bad as the installers were that worked on my car.
This whole thing started over scratches. Letting customers view my car, while it was in the bay, ect. HAD you done the install correctly, this wouldn't be happening.
Once again the problem is your store, QUIT trying to blame other people about your MISTAKES.
South car Toys went through 3 MANAGERS in the last year, Does that tell me something? It sure does, sounds like that store has problems.
SO don't sit there and blame me for something that your store did wrong.
I have posted a BBB complaint thru your store and I contacted the news station.
Once again all you had to do was take care of the paying customer.
You sure were nice before you got my $, but after the fact, a total different company.
.....................................................
Okay what I signed was a release since they scratched my bumper and in return they built me a fiberglass box in my tire well for free.
I signed a release letter on the scratches only. But they are saying I signed it for the whole car.
How the hell was I suppose to know the wires and clips were bad.
Bad business though, Please pass it along about this shady business.
Do your homework folks when doing stuff like this.

sorry to hear that the issue has still not been resolved. One lesson learned from this is that its hard to find a reputable and honest place, sometimes finding an honest place even means you may have to pay a lil bit more, but in the end its well worth it.

Have you ever thought of filing a small claims action against the manager and/or cartoys?? You have proof that they did shady work and you have proof of all the correspondence between you and cartoys. Therefore, since you had to goto another shop to have the original work repaired, you are owed this money as not only a matter of principle, but you are also legally entitled to this money. Just remember, your time is money also, just think of all the time that was spent with this matter. Even though the damages are small, you need to teach shops like this a lesson. Don't just stop at the BBB (btw, they wont do anything for you, its kinda like filing a complaint with NNA -- NOTHING HAPPENS).
I guarantee you will get your money back and then some. File a small claims action demanding triple your actual damages and the judge will most likely see this matter in your favor. If anything, the manager and installer have to show up for the hearing, and if they dont, you automatically win. So hey, it is taking their precious time away as well now. Good luck and keep us all informed.
Cartoys will come up with some excuse like : "We were willing to fix the car but he took it to another shop!!!" And your response would simply be "Why would I want to take it back to you guys after all the trouble you caused in the first place. That's like calling a chef a fat pig and demanding that he make you another burger. You think he aint gonna spit in it after all that???"

Now I already spoke to a lawyer and he said more than likely Car Toys will present that letter in court and the judge will say that I signed it and I will more than likely lose.
Its a broad statement, saying releasing Car Toys of all damages.
Remember that was for the scratches to my bumper, and the replacement of 4 panels inside the car. They replaced the panels and I signed an agreement saying I will forego the scratch on the bumper if they build me a fiberglass box for free. I agreed to pay for materials, they provided the free labor.
I think that signed letter is where I am screwed.
But my question, is how did I know there were faulty wires, missing clips, ect?
I think I am screwed with the letter, and I might as well just post a BBB complaint. BTW, the News station wanted to see the faulty wires actually in my car. So thats out there also.
Anyway, I think the court thing will be a waste of my time and energy. I will just shame them until it gets old.
Ask your lawyer about express and implied warranties. Since they are in the business of car audio, they are held to a higher standard when it comes to car audio related matters. Hence, there are implied warranties that they will do the job to the standards of other car audio shops in the industry. You as the consumer should expect that there are no faulty wires and missing clips. Also, the fact that the faulty wires could've cause significant damage beyond the audio related equipment, there are clearly consequential and foreseeable damages. I don't think any judge would go against that argument. If the damages were simply scratches then the release letter you signed frees them from any liability. However, since there were clearly damages that extended beyond installation related work, you have a good case in my mind.
PM me with any questions you might have. I practice in So. Cal and am not familiar with the laws of your state, but there are universal laws that carry over. Anyway, good luck with this matter and don't give up. Have your lawyer carefully read the release letter you signed. If I am not mistaken, you signed a simple boilerplate release letter (probably on the back or bottom of your invoice). It's not like you signed a commercial lease that is 50 pages long and covers every possible angle. So, you might be able to find a loophole somewhere.

I would recommend installing the products yourself. Taht way the only person you can be pissed at is yourself--with this knowing you ****ed it up, you know you will make it right. The install is really easy, just read up and go into it with open eyes. I have had 4 installs done and the car audio places including Tweeter have scratched up my interior along with the equipment. I had to go back on two of the ocasions and rewire an entire audio video/ nav system. Once I did this, I found I could install anything non custom. (althoug I did two custom small installs. But the Z is a good car to work on jusging from the pictures and even the doulbe din setup.
On the other note, I would take Car toys to small claims court to get your money back. Document everything and save the invoices. Most shops will replace "damaged pieces" w/ in a good time frame, this is unacceptable--only takes a few days to the part in--even from Japan(about a week or two). Anyway cll the district office, do mention that you got upset-yelled at the manager over the phone and you appoligize but you want the situation rectified. If not, tell them that you will be taking them to small claims court to settle up. I understand why you were pissed, but yelling at the manager only intensified the problem and at that piont the mgr problaly said ****-it he was only going to do very miniaml to correct it. Only problem with getting that upset is a lot of times people want to jump the gun and think yelling will accomplish more--not true most will do very little because they already have seen the worse--when some one is calm and nice you can achieve more because they don't know what to expect then. ( just a little advice since I work in Customer service)

hey zand02max, i feel for you man and i am just about to get an install in my 350z and i was wondering if you have heard any good stories from anyone in the local area. I got a quote at drive in auto sound for 800 dollars for new speakers all around(MB quarts PCE 216, MB quarts DKD 116), a 4 channel amp(rockfordfosgate 801X), infinity basslink, and an alpine 9831 head unit. Do you know if they do good work?

And some of them had no idea what they were doing back there. Remember their speciality is window tint and taking care of car dealers. Avoid those places also.
However, the North Car Toys manager was a nice guy, I should have went to that store. But I would not recommend them either, due to it being the same company.
Try the Denver area, I am not sure where, but there is a place where all the NFL guys go to get their rides done. Not sure though.
I would avoid the Springs like a plague. Just my opinion though.
On the Car Toys BBB complaint, Car Toys rejected my claim and I filed another counter claim, and if nothing then, then I am done. I might go to small claims, but in my opinion $165 is not worth the hassle. I am tempted to dump all of the shady wiring on the front steps one day after closing!

Well I put my BBB complaint in and no reply from them.
I e-mail them today and get this reply.
The Bureau noted your dissatisfaction with the companys response and closed your complaint out with Car Toys as unresolved.
Sincerely,
BBB
So I guess its a bad strike on Car Toys.

I feel for ya.......I had a similar problem with a high end body shop screwing up a spoiler paint job. Ended up threatening to go to small claims and they took care of it. But not up to the job I was expecting. So I put a hold on my Visa card for payment. We will see what happens next.
