only replace stock sub?
Hi guys,
I just bought an '04 Chrome Silver Touring Roadster. Great car.
Would it do any good to just replace the stock 10" sub with say, a JL 10 inch unit? Is a direct swap possible? I don't know if I want to do a complete amp/sub swap, but I don't know if it would help the stock system to just do the sub, if it can even be done.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Dave

Dave, AFAIK you have three options:
1) replace the stock sub with a free-air 10 inch: i've heard this personally and although it does sound better, it's not dramatic
2) rip out the stock sub and put a 8 or 10 inch in a custom box in the same location: sounds much better, but probably won't have "punch" to it - do a search on the forum, a lot of people have done this and gone on to different setups
3) rip out the stock sub and put a basslink in there: probably your easiest solution, but suffers the same as option 2)... won't have punch
I started off thinking the same way you did, but after some thorough research, i'll probably end up getting a pair of 10's or 12's in a custom box under the strut bar. Based on what i've seen in this forum, that seems to be the best approach... but then again i like to hear AND feel my bass... so for you, options 1, 2 or 3 might be sufficient.
hope this helps
