New Android head unit shift knob removal?
Im about to get a new android head unit installed. Do they have to remove the shift **** to do so? I have a 2003 350 and to remove that shift **** you basically have to destroy it.

Yes, sort of (you can jury rig but not worth it) as the entire waterfall assembly needs to be lowered/removed. Or, just use a rubber strap wrench to remove the shift ****.
Check out Anthony’s vid to get an idea….

Thanks for the info! I have a new shift **** my local performance shop is going to install and they let me know there is a good chance the stock **** will be ruined coming off which im okay with. Was thinking I may need to have the shift **** replaced before doing the head unit as I dont think a car stereo place is going to do any better with the **** removal.
Yep - you can leave the **** **** on to do the audio install. As Trav mentioned, the boot has enough flex to twist that plastic assembly out of the way.
When I had to remove the **** to drop my transmission, I used some old rubber garden hose that I cut into sections and then slid those over the jaws of some channel-lok pliers and slowly twisted it off. Or, you can wrap a towel around it and use some pliers to avoid damaging the leather. Just make sure you also have a set of pliers holding the linkage below the **** in place so you don't screw up anything internal in the transmission when twisting.
Heck, I think I have my OEM **** laying around somewhere when I got my over-priced TK Hebi Bebi. Since you're local, hit me up if you destroy yours.
Read your post too fast. I see you already have a new one. What did you go with?

Thanks Heel I appreciate it! I didn't want to hold off on this install but now I will go ahead. Been wanting this upgrade for a long time!
