I am hoping to mount an amp under the passenger seat, but if it's too tight, can it be mounted vertically behind the seat on the wall under the glovebox, using very short screws? Or am I going to hit the gas tank? It looks like there is a little space at least in the top left corner where the hole is which is where a push pin type clip goes to retain the carpet. I don't want to lose the glovebox, so if it won't work here, it'll have to go in the back hatch somewhere. Thanks!
Depending on the size of the amplifier, you can mount it in the glovebox inside the small tray that sits above the top hat of the fuel pump basket assembly. I utilized a JL 5 channel that fits in that spot and utilized velcro strips to secure it as to avoid risking running a screw into the tank. I was able to slot the front of the tray and route my wires through there. Simple, clean, and accessible. Only hold up is when you have to work on your fuel system it adds an extra step.
There's also quite a bit of space behind the rear shelf/deck plastics that cover the the rear speaker towers and storage cubbies (downside is accessibility once plastics are put back in place). Also, plenty of space behind the driver's seat where the factory sub would be, but as I recall you're planning to put an aftermarket sub there. As Renfro pointed out, mounting location all depends on your amp size. I would also steer clear of using self tapping sheet metal screws. I like Renfro's suggestion of using some velcro or mounting directly to the parcel shelf inside the passenger side glove box. This is probably the most common mounting location.
If the amp is small enough, you could probably mount it next to the new Sub. That cavity is quite large inside.
On my Z, I installed a second glove box behind the driver's seat. Complete with the hanging mounting bracket that supports the back of the glove box. Nissan designed the glove boxes for both RHD & LHD markets. This means the brackets and box dimensions are identical/interchangeable. I simply scooped up the needed parts from a local Pick-N-Pull. I'm utilizing the rear 6.5-inch speaker towers with some coaxial Focals. They sound very good (highs & mids) and offer a decent amount of bass for what they are. I did shore everything up with some DEI Boom Mat. Lot's of hollow sheet metal around the rear parcel shelf/deck under all the plastic paneling. Even with the front seats acting as a barrier, the rear speakers sound very crisp/clear and definitely help provide a full/complete sound stage.
dont run screws into that area..very close to the tank.. just not a solid route to go in either instance... the passenger side floor is much deeper also, no need to mount it in a poor spot.
