Default New idea for rear speaker location

Asked the same question earler on 350zmotoring and got no response. Let's see if the larger fan base on my350 comes through!

Here's the idea, does anyone know why this could not be done?

How about mounting 6.5" rear speakers on the front side of the rear strut bar pillar facing forward. Is there room in there? it would get the rear speakers back a ways, not fireing into the headrests as the factory do. Then the factory rear Bose in the factory locations could be used for the NAV voice. would this work? Does anyone have pix of the inside of the strut bar pillar?

Another location for a nav speaker could be on the center console between the two seats, to the right of the cig lighter (facing it). Looks like enough room for about a 4" speaker there. Once again, does anyone know whats behind it?

If these locations dont work I'm looking into putting small nav speakers in the kick panels.

we think alike my friend!

i was thinking about the same exact thing this morning! i was looking back and was like hey that looks like a good spot for some speakers. I dont see any reason why this couldnt be done if you dont mind tearing into the Z. I personally dont wanna fool with doing any permanent damage. I like to work with what Nissan gives me to work with. But look into it, might work! Good luck!!

to do that you'd have to cut into the strut bar to make a place for the speaker to actually sit. that would suck to do.

just lose the rear speakers and put good ones up front.

I have to go with Rajiv on this one....besides that 6.5 are not going to line up anyway. The factory rear 6.5 are mounted on a larger plate. What this means to you is that you are only going to get 2 holes to line up...MAYBE. I'm not talking diaginal holes either, more like the top or bottom 2. If you are running any kind of amped mids and highs then definitely forget about it. If you are only doing a speaker upgrade with no amp and no sub, then it would probably be worth it.....maybe.

As for cutting into the strut bar, not only would that be a major PITA but then you would have to mold some plastic around the panels to make it look decent. Doable it you have an a$$load of cash. Not worth it, but doable. I wouldnt do it.

you could always glass something for the area between the back of the seats and the strut bar that could have the speakers built into it and also say a sub in the middle or maybe a nice amp. that would look pretty tight.

Ya, all this just to save my nav voice. She can be a pain. I'll probebly end up doing what everybody does and just put a CB type speaker under the dash and install a 5ch amp.
