Default Pics of my JL 8W7 enclosure in stock location...

Someone asked for some pics of my enclosure, so here goes:

It is exactly .75cf (with displacement of sub subtracted). This is the ideal displacement for an enclosed 8W7. It took some MDF and a helping of mold fabric and fiberglass to get the displacement right, considering the dimensions of the stock location.

It is being powered by a JL 250/1.

To the pics:

Space prepped with Extreme Dynamat, and some carpet for cusioning. We also turned fuel access panel upside-down and hammered on it a bit to get more space:

My wideband o2 controller:

Rear (with 8W7 in the background):

I do not have a wide angle pic of the enclosure installed, or my amps in the glovebox, but I will get some tonight.

Didn't you have two 8's at one time? So this 8W7 is a super 8? How does it sound compared to the other setup? Does it surpass or equal the sound of a 10?

i sold my box with 2 8w3v2's in it. this new 8 takes the same power as both of the W3's. It is way louder than my previous setup. I am not sure about the comparison to a 10", because the only 10"s I have heard in Z's are 10W6's and 10W7's... These are obviously louder than the 8.
I am sure my 8 outpowers some lower quality 10"s, but in terms of response, it probably does not hit as low.
It is 100% sufficient for the music I listen to... (dance/trance/break-beats and some choice house).

I have to hear one in person to see if it'll work for hip hop and jazz.

I was going to put a 10w7 in there, but my installer recommended against it because of the proximity of the sub's magnet to the gas tank guage.

He said he had heard that this can cause the gas guage to read 'full' all the time.

Anyone ever hear of this?

Also, I used to have three 8w6s in a box that performed like crazy, so I can imagine what an 8w7 is like.

I had them in a civic coupe(not riced out) and they hit 137.6 db with only 400 watts on them.

Skidazzle,

I just bought my 8w7 and I'm gonna build a box for it too. You did an awesome job Please share the dimensions of your box if you don't mind.

I'm a bit concerned about getting that full volume for this sub.

How did you mount that bad boy?
