Unhappy V1 Concealed Display Help!

Well i had my V1 hardwired into my Z using tips from the "stealth" install thats floating around this site, and 350zfrenzy and i loved it. Then it stopped working. The remote unit seems to turn it self off randomly, and you have to squeeze it, or hit it in certain spots for the display to appear. I have a piece of wire in the display box holding it to the headliner, but i covered it with electrical tape, so i didnt think that would be a problem. The main V1 unit sees that there is a remote display unit, so its displays shut off, but the display doesnt always appear. Any ideas??? I drilled a couple holes in the top for the wire so i dont know if Valentine will take it back. Any suggestions? Plz Help!

Sounds like you might have a short from the main unit to your stealh display. I would just get another cord and see if that fixes your problem. I think it uses regular telphone line like the reguar unit, right? Also, does it get power from the main unit or is it seperate?

It does use regular phone cable. Try running a new, unused cable directly from the remote unit to the main unit to see if it fixes it.

I've never had any such problem with mine, and it's been in there over a year (maybe it's my install you're referring to?).

Barring that, it's possible you shorted something out when you took it apart to drill the holes in it. Try unmounting it, cleaning the connectors, and using a fresh cord.

er... try some isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on the connectors. Also, you may want to take down the remote unit itself, and look for any loose wires, cracked solder, etc. inside the housing.

Failing any of this, at least the remote display units aren't very expensive... I know that's not a big help, but...

Try using a new phone cable, but if all else fails just send it back to Valentine. They have awesome customer service.
