Default Double DIN in NAV Compartment?

Is it possible to mount a double din stereo in the NAV compartment and having the door still function? The reason is I want to be able to hide the head unit....

I don't mind cutting just as long as the door still functions. If someone has done it, pics?!

Good question...I'm actually going to go to a couple installers today and see if they can do that....and have them put the lcd monitor in the double din spot. I'll let you know what they tell me...

NO!!!!

I tried to put a single DIN in the NAV compartment and behind the console is a solid piece of metal that has to do with the bracing of the air bag and after that you run into a part of the airconditioning filter unit. I talked with a guy who did put a single DIN in and he had alot of trouble with air conditioning after that and spent hours dremeling. My suggestion would be to install in glove box like I did and put an IR sensor on console to run your head unit with the remote. Single DIN took up top part of compartment bottom part is not useable due to metal brace. If you look up threads posted by Jeffrox you will see how he did his install in NAV compartment. It is under LA-proof stealth install.

Yah, you're right...and it's too narrow.

The more I think about it, I wonder how bad the glare is with the screen out anyway. At least now how I have it, it's gaurded most of the time from the sun...

nlauri, thanks for the info. I really don't want to have a fat lcd screen where the stock stereo is, nor do I want a single din and have an empty space.

I guess I'll have to re-think my plans.....

That's pretty nice, I think I'll just go with a single din control unit, and hide a fat lcd behind the door. Then in the spare space below put my turbo timer

Default theft worries.

Y' know what I do?

I have my nav compartment full with factory nav. Below that I have Kenwood'sdouble din ddx-7015. This is model without retractable screen....i figure those are stupid anyway. If you have ANY type of upgrade to your stero, even if screen folds in, a theif is going to know it is cool.....and break into your shet. When I leave the car somewhere, I put a clipboard leaning against the whole unit. Imade a copy of a log sheet/employee information sheet from Los Angeles County Sheriff, and leaned it aginst the radio. So if they look in,.....wonder what theyll think?

worked so far...but I rarely leave this car for more than 10 minutes anywhere.
