Newbie question: About OEM alarm/dash LED
I just had a Viper 690XV 2-way responder security system installed in which they also driller (*arghh*) a new hole near my drivers side AC vent for the blue LED used with the Viper system. I removed the Nissan OEM remote door opener from my keychain as I have no more use for it.
The dumb installer did not touch the factory "alarm system" therefore when my Viper security system is armed and the blue LED light blinks...the red OEM Nissan LED on the dash near the winshield ALSO BLINKS!! This irritates me that they could not have pulled the LED up and disconnected some wires.
I tried using a thin screwdriver to pull up the OEM LED myself but ended up scratching the plastic around the LED a little (*ouch*). I was wondering if anyone knew if a better way or tool to use to remove this OEM LED from the dash?? I would probably just disconnect the wires leading into it so HOPEFULLY no more dual flashing bulbs.
I'm TRYING to EVOLVE, as in move forward and away, from the RICE ROCKET stage on my previous car, i.e. the fewer blinking lights the better. HAHAHAHA, peace all

Here's what I would do -
Did you give the installation shop permission to drill your dash??? I would freak out if someone drilled a hole for an LED in the dash of my brand new car, especially without asking me first.
If they didn't get permission make them buy you a new piece. Then, I would take out the factory LED and wire it up to the Viper alarm. This way, the Viper alarm will use your factory LED, and you will completely eliminate all signs of rice.
I wouldn't consider the installer 'dumb' for not touching your factory LED. In all my alarm installs I have ever done I have NEVER disconnected a factory LED. They are somewhat useful considering the factory alarm WILL arm and disarm with your door locks. I think the biggest problem is the flashing blue light with the flashing red light!
You also said its near the drivers side AC vent? Can you even see it from the passengers side? That is a terrible place to put an LED, I would consider your installer 'dumb' for putting it there....

Same here. My factory LED is still intact. I like the fact that the factory LED can be seen, not hidded or hard to see because of tint. I also have the Viper 791. We can't have the blue LED though. It's a $75 ticket.
What I don't get is removing the factory LED and installing an aftermarket LED.
Doesn't seem to be going away from the rice rocket theme.

A blue flashing light in a non moving/running vehicle is a $75 ticket? Crazy Hawaiians....
