Anyone else get annoyed by Valentine 1???
I've had my V1 for about a year and it has really been annoying me lately, most notably the Laser warning.
It seems like I will be driving anywhere and it will randomly go off, and this happens often, like 5 times or more in 30 minutes. I am pretty sure that there aren't laser traps in my neighborhood in multiple spots.
I'm not sure if I'm dealing with some sort of defect but it is driving me crazy...in fact it cost me a ticket. I had turned the volume down one day when it was getting a little too annoying and I didn't notice it going off and I passed a cop going a little too fast and then i noticed the V1 blinking after it was too late. Lesson learned, the volume is up now but that damn laser going off in the middle of songs etc. is getting really old.
Does anyone else deal with the laser warning going off constantly??? Could this be some sort of defect?

Well, explain this: driving in my neighborhood late at night with no cars around, no garage doors going up etc.
Does everyone deal with their laser going off all the time?

I disabled X band on my V1 because it was NEVER a cop in metro-Atlanta when it went off. I think some small towns might still use X band so it's good to turn back on for road trips.
I get a lot of laser false warnings from the latest SUVs third brake lights (brake light at top of rear window). It's only bad in stop and go traffic.
You should call Valentine's customer support to make sure you don't have some sort of failure. I've found them to be very helpful with previous problems I had.

Hmmm. The Valentine1 website no longer has a direct link to their "secret" programmer settings anymore (at least that I can find). Luckily they're still hosting the page and I found it with Google:
http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp
I printed out a copy of these instructions and keep them in my glove box. If you have a very recent version number of the V1, then you might want to call and ask them what the control mapping is for programmer mode on your version.
BTW, after disabling X band I was able to turn the V1 back to the "all bogeys mode" without going crazy.
Good luck.

There are two things that I know will set off your Laser detector. One, as others have said, are the red LED's on the 3rd brake lights of higher vehicles. You have to be fairly close to them (i.e.stopped behind them at a light and they have their brakes on) and the LED's have to be at roughly the height of your V-1.
The other thing I have seen (although not nearly as commonly) is mist kicked up from cars in front of me in sunny conditions. For example, after it has rained pretty heavily and then it turns sunny, the mist somehow refracts the light and can set off the Laser.
Other than that and a cop shooting you with a laser gun, must be a defect!

I get the same thing on mine. Sometimes it goes karazy, while other days it seems content. I was thinking before that perhaps the heat has the capacity to destroy some of the circuitry, fuses, wiring, or something. I don't remember it doing that when I first bought it four years ago. Besides that, I don't know.
Interesting btw about the taller third brake light thing. Never knew that before.

I was having this same problem couple of months ago plus the "0" indicator wasn't lit all the way. It was still under warranty so I sent it back. I explained to them that it was going off randomly plus the "0" indicator. I got it back and they fixed both problems.

wait.... so someone tell me what a radar detector expensive as a V1 or the Escort does? Like the features.. i know that it detects radar when like you're approaching a cop car that's stopped and he's using the radar gun. But how does it work?? I mean does it blink even when the radar isn't pointed at your direction, and it's locked on onto a different car? How does the detector even know radar is there? ahah so many questions.. Thanks

i just got mine recentley, it goes off EVERYWHERE! 80% of the time there's no cop, and like 75% of the time i pass a cop it doesn't go off . . . wtf? i have it set on Advanced Logic/Logic mode most of the time, that cuts down on some of the false warnings... i'm still trying to figure out how it works because everything seems so innacurate.... this thing makes me so paranoid....... it's the few times that i've passed a cop and it warned me that makes me believe it's all worth it
