Default Audio help

Guys,

I have a few questions regarding stereo setup.

My current setup is Inifity Basslink in the stock location. I have a non-bose HU. The rear speaker has been replaced with Diamond Audio (m361i series) when I was intalling the Basslink. A lot of people suggested not to replace the rear, but after seeing I had to do it.

I am looking to replace my front speakers Perhaps infinity, but i am not sure what model. Anybody can suggest an amp for it too (2 channel)?

Also, I am looking at some LOC (line converter) and notice that it has a watt range. Is that dependent on the amp or speaker? For example, Max Input: 55W of the LOC. So what does it mean? I am assuming it is the wattage it could take straight from the HU and whatever the amp watt is does not matter.

I like to keep my HU stock. How hard is it to open up the HU and locate the cables (speaker)? I was able tap into the rear speakers when I did the basslink.

Thanks in advance.
Tony

I'm currently running Infinity Reference speakers in the front and rear. They're better than I thought but could be better. I would go with the Kappa or Perfect speakers. Actually I want to change my fronts for the Rockford Fosgate Punch series seperates. They come with 2 tweeters per woofer. As far as an amp it would depend what speakers you go with and how much they can handle.

As far as your other questions I'm not exactly an expert so I don't want to give the wrong advice. I have learned a lot by doing a lot of my installs myself. Crutchfield's website has good tips and advice.

Are you running a sub right now? You should so you don't depend on the front and rear speakers for the bass. It will put less strain on your amp and speakers.

If you understand how power ratings of speakers and amps then it's a lot easier to match what you want to put in your car. The main factor is always how much you want to spend.

The LOC range is based off of the output from your head unit. Depends on the amplified range. I honestly do not remember what the stock unit is rated at. I am pretty sure that each line is not greater than 55W however. You do not open up the head unit to get to the speaker wires. What you will do is to tap into the loom connector which plugs into the stock unit for the appropriate speaker outputs. If you want a four channel amp to power all four speakers, you will need twoLOC's, one for front and back speaker outputs at the back of the head unit. I think you can do what you did with the Basslink, however, I believe you will have a better signal closer to the radio output. The farther away you tap into the speaker wires, the more noise you will be collecting. You will also need to run wires from your amp to your speakers, independant of any wiring from the stock unit.

Hope this helps.

MonkeyBoy,

Very helpful. I meant to say tap into one of the wire harness and not the "stereo".

If I open up the door panel, would i be able to tell the speakers wire based on the color . Would that be the same color going to the HU? Do you know which color wire do I need to connect for the remote turn on. For the basslink I used the cigarette switch on the back.

Also I am sure the HU is not pushing 55 watts. Can somebody verify this?

ZYAL8R808,

I am running a Baslink sub (built in amp, etc) tapping into the rear speakers.

Edit: Would this amp be good enough for the Kappa? Both are rate at 75RMS. Usually you would want to have the speaker be able to take more than what the amp supply?

Thanks,
Toan

That amp would be good enough. Another thing you have to take into consideration is the Impendence of the speakers and what the amp puts out at that rating. The same amp will put out more power at 2 OHMs than at 4 OHMs.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your budget? How does your sub sound? Do you actually have your sub plugged into the cigarette lighter?

Sorry, I honestly cannot remember which colors the door speaker wires were. I ended up running wires all the way from the amp in the sub compartment all the way through the rubber looms on the side of the doors. At a certain wattage, I would not trust the stock wiring. I think 75 watts may be pushing it. Some people have started fires that way.

As for the remote turn on, here is a diagram to help you out. I highlighted the AC wire for the Base or Bose stereo connector. It is a light green wire.

ZYAL8R808,

The basslink is a sub. I connected to the back cigareet lighter for the remote control (power).

My budget is $500 for the font speakers & a 2 channel amps.

Do you think I can use the stock wire? Monkeyboy said it is dangerous?

Not necessarily dangerous, I just do not know the effects of running the amount of wattage on that gauge wire. You should look into it.
