Nice, you can add a lot of options on it. Is there a site where you can compare different alarms? Does anyone have the Viper alarm system?

I have a 350z alarm made by Nissan. I was lucky... it came with the car. This alarm is awsome!

It has its own LED light on the dash on the drivers side by the windshield that will scare off any intruders. Also, if you open the door, and its armed... the horn will honk over and over again. What this does is gets the attention of anyone near-by and will scare off the intruder.

The best part? When you arm it while walking away... it will flash your lights and honk the horn. Anyone around that see's this will know not to mess with the car and that you are serious about it.

I believe you can get it from Nissan. I have not seen them on ebay so you know they are hard to find and a rare item to have.

I like to show it off at the local car shows. People ask me where did I get it and who makes it... I tell them its custom.

The only problem is I cant get the remote start to work. I was told I had it with the alarm when I bought the car. The salesman said to hold down all the buttons on the remote key fod at the same time.

I was going to try it then but he said not to until the car is broken in. So at 1500 miles I tried it. Well just my luck... the windows went down, trunk popped open, and the horn went off all at the same time. Did'nt start. Boy, was I angry!

I called the local Nissan dealer to speak to the salesman that sold me the car. Now he tells me he does not know how it works and that he's not even sure if it has that option.

If anyone could please tell me how the remote start works I would really appreciate it.

All in all... I really like my alarm and its a real girl getter! <---- I have pictures to prove it from car shows, and an autogragh. I had to wait in line... but I have them.

Not really sure what that was all about but I have the Viper 791VX. I am really happy with it. It's also a 2 way responder. I didn't the shop even bother with the Remote Start but the alarm has it. This alarm can be $249 if you shop around, retails in the stores for like $700+ installed. You can check it out, go to their webiste Click here

Btw, their website was down when I was typing the message so hopefully it's back up when you go to it. Great alarm. I love the 2 way remote b/c sometimes I can't remember if I locked the doors after I park the car, no biggie just look down at the remote and it tells me if I did or not. I has like an insane range (I want to say something like 2 miles but not positive on that) so you dont have to walk all the way back to your car, just arm it from there. Hope this helps

I have the Viper 690 2-Way alarm. Only downside to these 2-ways, is they suck batteries. Suggestion would be to buy rechargeable's.

Love my Viper, has 4 sirens, 2 outside, 2 inside, and a backup battery.

BTW, if you want remote start on a manual, Compustar is the only legal alarm for manuals. FYI.

Also be careful with your alarm install, the guy that did mine, punctured my heater core, costing the install shop over $900.00 to replace it.

other than a remote start, what is the benefit of having an aftermarket alarm over the factory one?

I am looking into getting one of those GPS types that can unlock your doors and track your car if stolen. Anybody ever try or hear anything in regards to this type?

Because it is no more than keyless entry, it's not an alarm. An alarm will protect against more things than someone opening the driver side door without using the key. In fact, they could bust out your window and that factory alarm would never go off. If someone taps my car to test, they will get a few warning beeps, if they do it again the alarm goes off. Once the alarm goes off the starter is disabled so you can't crank the car. Those are just a few reasons.

The 2 way alarm systems send you a signal telling you which part of your car has been broken into, which allows you to act. The factory alarms are just there to scare off any intruders, but if your inside a building and your car is in a huge parking lot you will most likely not hear your alarm going off.

I've heard that they use a cell phone type device that they hide in the car to track down your car. But IMO if your car is stolen and actually driven away, they work quick, take the parts they want and hide the car in some dark alley way. Which the cops will eventually find. The GPS system just allows you to find it quicker, I would rather go with the 2 way system, atleast you can run out there and scare em off

I had no problems with my clifford matrix 3.5
it has 2 way lcd and the remote is cooler looking with carbon fiber
the alarm remote start also has 3 extra channels where i hooked up power trunk and got to roll up and down the windows without adding a window mod.
I have one siren outside from old school factory BMW alarm I was able to find and I got two mini piezo sirens from DEI that i put inside of the car one right across my backup battery if an installer tried to break in.
Best thing if you want to be really protective if get the proximity sensor and buy 2 back up batteries so if an someone actually gets to one of your back ups and unplug it the other hidden one will be triggered and they will not be able to do as much damage.
sorry about long post

been thinking about adding an alarm to my Z lately. So 2-way is what you all recommend? Which brand should I go with or is it just personal preference?

Video Surveillance

2 way pager alarm + a cam to watch the car from inside, I have a zpc.
In not-so-great areas I activate a cam that is motion sensative. If u walk by the car it turns on and follows u remotely. The feed is stored on a HD (Hard drive ). (Dont worry if someone takes the PC I have a hidden HD) Technology is great.

Sry i cant post any pics, of the Security sys or give other details on the setup. I would lose the advantage of security

2-way paging, best way to go.
Use a Factory alarm, and you will watch your z on wildest police Chases.

Almost every alarm at your stereo shop is made by Directed Electronics and has similar internals. Just buy the one with the features you like unless you're going to go with a lesser known or more custom set up like some people in this thread have mentioned.

BTW camera guy above, wouldn't it be better to let people know you have a camera running and that it's "following" them to keep them from breaking in? I thought the point of a security system was to deter theft, not to simply film the act.

quick thing on this, they wouldn't be able to start the car anywayz the keys are chiped, the 2-way pager alarms are great you get a 1/4 mile range in wide open space if your in a mall, or a multi story building i highly doubt that you will be paged. as far as the guy with the camera where can i get one of those? i think that is the best security film the bastard then track him down and sue his insurance company for the damages
