Stock speaker
I just replaced the head unit with an Alpine 9833. By playing around with the filters, the stock speakers actually doesn't sound that bad with an after market head unit. I'm still going to replace all speakers, but I was pretty impressed how good they sound connected to the Alpine.

cehome,
How much did it cost you?
I am thinking of going with the Alpine 9833 too, instead of wasting money on the converters. Did you get the wiring harness for it too?
So you have an amp and sub? Does the alpine have an RCA for the sub?
Edit: Where did you buy the HU? I saw prices range from Ebay costing $280. Some have warranty up to 90day (wow).

Dave,
Did you do the install yourself? If so, did you bought the wiring harness and what dash kit?
Also do you know what the warranty from the ebay seller? The best I found was 90 days from them.
If you can provide me with link, it would be great.
That unit has a detacheable face?
