Do a search (if it is working this week!) and there are literally thousands of posts on this topic.

Valentine One (www.valentineone.com) is the best in my opinion (and many others here and elsewhere). It sells for about $400.00

Either the Valentine V1, Escort 8500 X50 or the Bel 980, 985 etc would be the top 3.

With radar detectors you tend to get what you pay for.

i reviewed websites etc for a long time, and the escort 8500 X50 won in Ka-band tests which are used by 90% of the cops here in Kali... so got an X50 directly from escorts' website...

NO ARROWS THOUGH!!!

The 8500 is a great detector but it doesn't have the directional arrows like the V-1. Once you have seen them, you can't live without them. I am still amazed that no other detector has come out with them.

Valentine One...well worth the price w/ the arrows...1st time I've evr owned one & can't even imagine having a radar detector that is beeping & you not knowing where the cop was.....one will be a paranoid if that ever happened...went to Las Vegas last weekend & it possibly saved me 6 tickets...In addition, it is upgradeable if ever new software is added!!!!

V1 has a patent on directional arrows hence no one else has them. Once patent expires, I'm sure every company will.

i have passport and v1 both.

v1 hands down, the arrows are a feature that are so much more useful than one would think before having them.

If there are cops with Lasers in your area, then may I suggest:

8500 with the ZR3 Laser Diffuser!

Default Thanks

THanks all.

Consensus on this site seems to be that V1 better than Passport X50. Interestingly, the online reviews seem mixed (for example, check out http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=1064)

At this point, I am leaning towards the V1.

I assume a shifter can be added to the V1 down the road?

Default Went with X50/ZR3

Thanks again all...

After quite a bit of reading, I decided that the V1 was probably a better standalone option (better laser detection + comparable radar performance + directional arrows).

However, since I plan to get the ZR3 jammer, the X50 is best for me. Its (X50) radar performance seems to outperform that of the V1 (per several separate studies...although both are quite good), and the ZR3 more than makes up for the inferior LIDAR detection (and can link directly to the x50). While it lacks the arrows, it does offer 360deg/rear coverage.

In any case, wanted to share this. I'm sure the V1 addicts may disagree.

If anyone from Jersey reads this, I would appreciate your thoughts on any of these recommended dealers/installers:

I think you are making a good decision. IMO the V1 is over priced for the performance. It's mostly in the presser speed, the faster the speed the more time you have to react. I use the Bel and when it goes off I slow down! Doesn't mater the direction, but 90% of the time it's obvious.

They are all very good. You wont be disappointed with any of the top three (V1, Bel, Passport).
