Stock sub location horrible?

Stock sub location horrible?
So I talked to this car audio store today and they said that the stock sub location is a horrible place for a sub. They said that the same size sub in the trunk would make a vastly improved sound quality because the shape of the hatchback (kind of like a cone facing the front of the car) amplifies the bass. What are people's opinion about this?
I'm thinking about getting a sub and would rather put it in the stock location because of the scarce trunk space, but if it sounds that much better in the trunk, then maybe I'll go that route.

in the stock location.... Just barely
in the trunk.... depends on your box
I have that sub in a temp box (still working on custom one) and it is in the hatch and it sounds so good.
I highly recommend JL.
As far as is the stock location a good spot for the sub, not really. Sub frequencies are not directional, however the area that the sub uses to compress the surrounding air is quite important. So the larger air volume in the box (to a point of course) and directly outside the box can change the quality of the sound. The hatch is definitly better, but it is possible to get good sound out of the stock location if that is the only place you can put the sub. If you do go stock location do not get a massive sub that has a ton of woofer travel as you won't get much more efficiency out of it versus a better quality coil sub (you just won't move as much air in the stock location).
Hope this helps.
