Stereo installation
Guys,
How long does it take to install a stereo?
My stereo (alpine 9833) will arrive tomorrow. I was going to wait until the weekend comes, but now i am anxious to install. I get home from work at 8:30p.m. I figure, if i start at 9p.m., will i be done before 12 .
I have the amps wired already (including direct line).
What do you think? I also have the kit/wiring harness.
Thanks,
Tony

honestly its not gonna take that long, just make sure you test it before you reassemble the center console. I had never taken apart the console before, and by following the easy setps on the sticky at the top of the page, i was able to swap dash kits in 30min. and 15min was speant getting the metra kit off. Make sure you undo the negative terminal.

installing a h/u is very simple and will not take you long. most of the time is just wiring the harness and installing the dash kit. like mofoz said it can be done in >1 hour.
dont forget to take out the cd in your stock h/u if you have one in.

Assuming that you're not running amps, new wire for speakers, etc, yeah, that'd be fine. However, it gets pretty tight in there with the white box in the way. If you are going to disconnect the white box, disconnect your negative battery terminal, cuz then you won't make the same mistake I did and **** off your Z ECU.

Be careful while your batt is disconnected. I have a 4 gauge wire with fuse running from the + post for amps. I had the fuse out of it and somehow the + end came close enough to cause a spark gap with my - terminal. Melted half the batt terminal before I had a chance to push it away (about 1 second).

Another question, can I just tap the wires on the new harness for power to other things. I plan on doing whats in this link for my ipod in the Z and eventually creating a little Carbon Fiber Cradle for it.

Rahtok,
Thanks man. Thats good to know. I was going to do it without removing the battery.
On a side note: I run my 4 gauge to the battery already, but have not connected to the battery yet. Do I connect the gauge to the postivie terminal while the negative terminal is unpluged too?
Also do I put the fuse in before the connection or do I put the fuse once the gauge is connected to the battery?
Any comments??
Thanks in advance.

Remove the fuse from your amp kit, connect your amp wire to the spare terminal on the battery. It'd prolly behoove you to have the other end of your amp kit hooked up to your amps already as well, but that's not such a big deal.

Guys,
My stereo came tonight, but i didn't have time to install it. Any ways, does the stereo fuse burn often?
The alpine 9833 has a fuse holder. I was thinking if a fuse burn, you will have to remove the dash out to just replace the fuse?

Guys,
Can you please confirm if this is correct.
I have the Scosche wiring harness (NN03b). I have an Alpine 9833 HU.
The following wires are not being used from the Scosche are:
1. Remote turn 12v+ (Cause I will be using the one from the HU instead). This is for my two amps
2. Ground for chasis 12v- (Cause I will be using the one from the HU).
3. Amplifier ground.
Is the above correct?
Also, can somebody explain what illumination/dimmer does? I think it has to do with when the headlights are on, it will adjust the brightness accordingly?
On a side note - I am using a ANL fuse holder (100amps). That suckher is so big, about 5-6 inches long. Where do I find the place near the battery? I have a fuse holder that is smaller (80amps), and my total amps is 90 for my two phoenix golds. Do I have any problem if I use the latter one?
Thanks in advance.

Rahtok,
I just installed my HU. I disconnect the neg. terminal and my SES light still went on.
How do I reset that?
My HU is an alpine 9833. So many features, I don't know how to tune it yet. My bass is not that good. I have two amps, Phoenix 5.0:1 & 5.0:4.
Sub is Infinity Perfect 10.1d
