Question for a newb!

Just wondering,
What makes a head unit play either sirius satelite or xm radio?
What determines what it will play?
You would think there would be a way like to use whatever head unit you wanted.

there are many head units out there that are compatible with xm and sirius. you just have to check the specs to make sure they are designed to work with these systems
