I just recently replaced my infinity perfect 6.1's because i believe one night 4 weeks ago i blew something in the crossover. Well anyways i have noticed that since installing the new ones on monday (a week ago), that they seem very muffled and not NEAR as high pitched as the other ones i originally had. I know speakers must be broken in but the weird thing is, that when the car is stopped and not being driven they seem fine, but after about 5 mins or so of blasting them when driving it seems as if they are really muffled and i have no clue why. I already replaced the JL 300/2 amp because of this too and it still does it so i know its not the amp.....also i notice that after playing it for about 40 minutes tonight at a pretty loud level the thermal light was on and I have no clue why. ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUE whats goin on? I am so fed up with all the audio problems ive had in the past year im about to sell all this **** and go back to stock, but someone help me figure out the problem please.
with the infinitys, you can adjust the highs on the crossover to three settings. low mid and high. its in the owners manual on how to adjust them. its just a couple of dip switches, not a big deal.
Your crossover is having a problem. A loose inductor will cause the tweets to cut out. I found this out... I had the same problem, opened the crossover and jiggled the inductor and the tweet would cut in and out...
I just posted in your other message too, but I would check the wiring and the amp. If you still have warranty on the amp, bring it back and get a new one. The distorsion you're hearing after a few minutes is caused by the amp working too hard under an increased thermal load. I had an alpine that was I was running to low impedance too and it would start to produce terrible sound and then shut off. Once cooled it would kick back on and start from the beginning. Once you replace the amp, recheck the wiring. Make sure you're not asking to much of the amp.
