Default Burn DVD+R copy of Nav DVD?

Hey all!!! I'm new to the site, and in fact, I'm also a new Z owner!

My name's Shahrum and I just sold my first car, a 1999 Ford Mustang, that I've worked on for the past four years in exchange for a 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring (only 15k miles on it, not bad! )

Anyways, the car came fully loaded, but unfortunately, the previous owner must've "misplaced" the navigation DVD. My stepdad is a body mechanic and came across a 2003 Nissan Altima that has the DVD in the car. He's bringing it home for me this evening so I can attempt to copy it for my Z.

Is this even possible to duplicate the navigation DVD? And even more so, will an Altima's DVD work on the 350Z navigation system? If anyone has experience with doing this, please share!

Also... just curious, but I wanna know if I might have set a record on this site for being the youngest 350Z owner... but I turned 18 in March!!! And before I get rich kid insults, just know that every dime of the car payment, insurrance, gas, etc. on my Mustang and this car will be paid by me (and my working ***!)!!

Thanks for any help!!!

congrats on the car! The altima nav will probably work, but you can't burn it. The nav disk is 8.something gb. I tried to copy mine.

As mentioned above, you will need a dual layer dvd disc burner, other that that, I would first attempt an DVD-R, more of a chance it will work in the nav...

Ok... I have Sony 16x dual layer burner, but my blanks are all 4.7GB DVD+R. I'll go out and see if I can find some dual layer blanks...

Oh... and is Nero sufficient enough for burning a copy? Or do I have to worry about any type of copy protection? I'm using the latest Nero Ultra (6.6.0.1)

dont know if nero will work (never tried it). get a copy of DVD XCOPY, that will compress the 8gb nav dvd so it will fit on a regular dvd. take the above suggestion and use a dvd-r.

you cant just shrink down a dvd full of data the way you can a dvd movie. the dvd shrinking is done by reducing the quality of the movie, and removing extras like language tracks and commentary. there are places that sell dual layer media, so look online. nero will probably burn it.
