My enclosure is 1.75-1.85 Cu ft. on the moderate side without measuring every square inch. If you need more room poly fill can be used. Our 3x10" enclosure is more like 2.15 - 2.25Cu ft.

I kind of like the Wood enclosure it is a low cost and effective box. I just want to point out there is a big difference in sound characteristics of a fiberglass enclosure versus wood.

As you know Particle board and even MDF is pores. Fiberglass has better value for air tightness. For example you will get water to seep through MDF and end result will be unusable, Fiberglass will hold the water as long as you need it. Same applies for Air. That is why all Hi-End installs use Fiberglass.

In most cases fiberglass will also give you more room and weigh less. Our Flat faced Strut tower enclosure weighs between 18-20 Lbs, (without the holes cut for subs. I am sure that will make it a little less) Depending on the thickness sprayed on the mold. We use more on shipping weight not to get surcharged from UPS.

In comparison with our fiberglass enclosure versus the wooden I would say there is a world of difference here. It is apples and oranges. Let’s see how else I can describe it. Having someone comparing a 350Z versus a Chevy Cavalier. I am not saying Cavalier is a bad car Just nothing close to 350Z.

This is not to discourage anyone form the wooden box I just want to make sure peoplw understand there is a big difference between the enclosures being compared.

Now that that is said. I have to say nice job on the wooden enclosure.
We have access to a CNC Machine where we make our wooden enclosures with, If anyone is interested in a wooden enclosure I am sure we can come up with a version that is suitable in the lower price range. Let me know.

I like the look of nazars box but my question is about having 3 subs back there.
It seems it would cause alot of rattle in the hatch.
I could be wrong because ive never seen anyone with 3 subs in the back but seems like more than id need.

 

I have only one back there and it is more than enough for me! But to each his own.

 

We also have the flat enclosures.

 

The problem with the flat one is the look. I like the stylish look and color of the enclosers with 3 subs.
They are purty
I dont like the look of just one sub.

 

Mike, this looks like a good alternative to the higher priced fiberglass box. Good for bass on a budget!

You mentioned in the eBay ad that its pre-drilled to pull the wire through ... is that on the back side of the box (through the carpet) or on one of the sides? (or bottom?) ... just want to know if the wire will be visable from the back, or easily hidden?

The hole is located on the side panel hidden from sight by the strut bar.

I am thinking about upgrading exhaust. How did your Borla system work out?

I might be interested in this box but I have a question. How is the box secured onto the car? Do you use screws or does it lock into place somehow? TIA

I have had mine in my car for about a month. The strut brace seems to hold it in place really well. This is nice because I did'nt want to screw into my car.

I dont know if anyone has tried to secure it with screws or any way else but my box has'nt gone anywhere just being wedged under the brace -----seems to work out great.

When installing(sliding it in place) if you feel it might move I would suggest maybe some velcro on the bottom to stop any sliding--I hate suggesting VeLcRo but I dont see why it would'nt work.

I just got the box and posted a new thread on it sorry didnt see this one. doh!

Anyway, the box is very nice, the fittament couldnt be better. It could have been a factory option the way it fits. To be honest I wasnt thrilled about the hole in the side of the box for the speaker wire so I replaced it with a terminal I had lying around nice little 2$ upgrade. Short of that it rocks. Not a ton of block rocking base from 1 10" speaker but extremly nice tight bass very nice sound ect.

As for nazir's comment about MDF being porus I doubt that matters for as much air as my single 10 is pushing. Also, this is very much a stealth install, with the decklid closed you cant even tell there is a sub installed. Also I was worried about scratching up the fiberglass box, its very nice but I need that extra storage space and would hate to mess that $$$ of a box up.

For the money, Im very pleased I recived such a nice box

I received mine yesterday. Very good quality. The carpet match near perfect with the OEM trunk mat. My JL 10W6 sounds very nice. The bass sound is very tight and clear. I'm very pleased with it.

Are you 100% happy with the sound? How does it handle the really low frequencies?
