Anyone have 12's in their Z
Well the trunk is going to rattle REGARDLESS if you have subs in the rear hatch area. Thats just the nature of the game. No mine does not rattle significantly more than anyone elses though. I Dynamatted the hell out of the hatch. As for trunk room I never thought of it as much useful anyways. What can you honestly fit back there? I do have some space in front of the strut bar where I keep duffle bags, cases of beer, etc when I need to.
JBL 12" in the OEM sub compartment. Just finished building the sealed MDF box last night which has a volume of 1318cu.in. or .76cu.ft. if my calculations are correct. The box is tight, but can be removed easily from the non-modified frame opening.
where you at hbm21rx? I want to know how that install is going and if you are in San Diego maybe hear it!

Sorry i have a typo, i meant to say Z crowd, lol. danninichols- i like your setup, if iknew how to use fiberglass i would definitley cover the space around the box with it rather than plexi. I dont want to attempt it alone. Does it sound good? it looks trick, really cool.
Oh I thought you were in Miramar Cali -- TopGun!
Anywayz, I really like the look of reverse mounted subs especially Audiobahn and was thinking of doing the same where I mounted mine just to get around the problems with making the sub sit flush. I think you are taking the right approach in taking your time and modelling it out. I worked for at least a month on mine..better to think it all out that make a mistake that will cost you even more time.
fiberglass is a real pain. matting hairs get everywhere and itch..and the resin fumes and sanded dust are a nightmare. If you want to make something very rigid and light it works wonders, if you are just trying to shape something on the surface maybe you can use something like Bondo and sand it out for painting.
Glad to hear the setup sounds great.

Oh..my sub setup sounds unbelievable. I was sitting out in the garage today trying to adjust all of the crazy settings on my head unit..Crazy amounts of bass that literally moved my rear view mirror to a new position! No rattles at all on the inside..light rattle can be heard in the rear bumper if you stand behind the car, but overall I am in joy.
AV, are those 12"s??? That is awesome! How did you get the front sub so close to the front edge of the tire well? I pushed mine back about 1.5" from the front and I'm sure I can't get 2 in there now. Is the box FG? Where is the amp installed, first pics don't show anything under the strut bar.
dannichols: yes those are two eclipse 12'' Titaniums. It is a very tight fit and i had to end up taking out the foam on both sides and sliding it back.. i think the box dimensions were something like 21x10x26 or something along those lines.. i really dont remember. it barely fit in and you had to push the small tabs down but this was a good thing because now it holds it in place. The Amp is not installed under the strut tower bar it is actually on a false panel that i made to fit the strut tower bar. If you look at the car head on you see a big *** amp and a glowing blue light coming from the front of the strut tower bar it also deters people from seeing my subs and wanting to steal the shiny stuff! lol but then the amp kinda cancels that out... so yeah.

sweet install. I had hard enough time getting one 12" in there, but I didn't want to raise the trunk up at all so my box is only 19x20x6 with a 3/4" MDF ring to give the driver a little more room.
So the blue reflection on one sub is the Amp?
