Question Is This To Much?

And will it work?

I recieved a quote of $4,600 to beef up my Bose system. the price also encludes adding a Nav unit but it still seems high to me. The quote is:

- Pioneer Nav-sys620
- JL E1200 Amp
- JL E4300 Amp
- Diamond Cm310d2 10" Sub
- Other miscelanious items.

The labor portion is quoted at $1,380.00. The installer is top notch (lots of awards & trophies) and wants to properly enclose the sub compartment to optimize the bass. Do I need to do this, or even replace the Bose sub at all?

My next question is, will it be worth it? I am keeping the Bose HU and base speakers. Will just replacing the Sub and amp(s) provide the type of audio quality I am hoping for or should I go a different route?

Thanks

As far as I know, you can't just plug-in-play another amp to "beef up" the upgraded BOSE speakers.

Expensive. Don't do it.

New Sub, enclosure, and amp should be around $500-600.

They're charging you MSRP on all items.

Edit: To give you an idea of how much I paid for my COMPLETE BOSE OVERHAUL,

Kenwood DDX7015
Kenwood Nav Addon
Focal 165CA
Focal 165C
JL Audio 10W0
Custom, fiberglass sub enclosure
Rockford Fosgate P4004
Rockford Fosgate P2002
5.8" Audiovox additional LCD screen
Fully Dynamatted (Doors, and rear panel)

All this was around $3600, including installation. $1600 was just for the Kenwoods. So two grand for all that delicious audio overhaul.

So unless you have deep deep pockets, then I'd go to another installer. If you are near SoCal, PM me.

Yea, he's puting in an adapter so the factory Bose HU will work with the new amp. I know others have done this too. Is the amp upgrade by itself enough or do I need to replace the sub too? Or do I need to do something altogether different?

To tell you the truth, the "sub" that came with the BOSE system is a PIECE OF TURD.

It's actually an inverted sub, once you take it out. The magnet is on the concave side of the subwoofer....

I doubt that sub can handle much. Even if it could (>75W RMS), the sound quality is crap.

Yeah Bix... that's too pricey...

Call Alan (big-al) @ Audiomobile and he will take care of you for a better price than that... but i would get a better head unit/sub for best result...

yes..BigAL from Audiomobile is where I got my system put in and fine tuned. I was gonna go theu APS, but i had issues with the labor costs...i know for sure you'll get a better deal than APS, without sacrificing quality of install. Go and stage Al's 350..

bump for Audiomobile...
tell em henry & jenric sent ya....!

Bix,

If you are spending that much money, you better off just replacing the HU. Trust me, the sound will be better.

Yea, thats what Al said too. Unfortunately the HU + changer I'd want would put me way over budget plus I really don't want to lose the 6 disk in-dash. My only other option for now would be to hold off on the nav which I really don't want to do.

Al is hooking me up. I'm calling him today to schedule the work. For $4,000 he's giving me;

- Pioneer Nav-sys620t + power & external source outlets
- JL 300 W/4 amp
- AlumaPro 10" Sub /w custom enclosure (under strut brace)
- Bravox Speakers
- Bass Control

I've never heard of AlumaPro or Bravox but hopefully those are good components. He suggested Focal speakers but again with the holidays coming puts me over my budget.

I saw the setup he's doing on his Track model, man it's sweet! To bad I don't have $15,000 to spend

I'd like the Focal's and I'm going to ask him if he can give me a better price on them (quoted 750.00 pr).

Do you know anything about Bravox? They're $450.00 pr which isn't cheap by any means, I've just never heard of them.

I may need to loosen the wallet n go for the Focal's. I'm even considering fore going the Nav for now and spending all 4k on audio. The nav is the only option I couldn't find on a BY touring and is the finishing touch for the inside of the car.

Check out the Boston Acoutics Z6 also. Very similar to Focal Utopia from what I hear. I've got a set of the Z6 and it's amazing.

I don't know but Alan say's they retail for $950 pr. They're the Focal 165k2p's. He says he's giving me a break on them because I was refered by a member/friend on this forum. Thanks again henry & jenric. I did call him and upgraded to the focals. I know they're going to sound awesome!

Having the installation done tomorrow. It's great he's so close to my office. Drop off in the AM & cruz home with some great tunes, and NAV too (just in case I get lost on the way home)
