I have been trying to do get these pictures for a while now. I ended up putting all JL Audio in the car. Upfront I used JL XR 650I components and JL XR 650 coaxial speakers in the rear. I ended up pulling the spare tire out and the installers fiberglassed 2 10" JL subs (i think they are 10w30's) I wanted to go with the upgraded subs but the tire well wasn't deep enough. I also used the JL Audio 500x5 amplifyer and kept the factory Bose head unit. I think I will end up changing the HU and go with a satelite radio and graphic eqaulizer to fill up the space of the factory radio. The subs sound unreal - I guess because the music bounces off the glass hatch. The fronts sound great too - I was orginally going to go with the MB Quart but IMO they sound too "punchy" (ear piercing). I also had the guys paint surrounding area of the Subs the same color of the car - Chrome Silver. It's very simple and clean.

Is there any difference in sound with the mat on top of the subs? Are you going to use anything to protect the subs from stuff you put in the trunk?

 

The subs do look small in the picture but they are both 10" subs. As for sound, there is really no difference with the mat on them. It still "hits" hard and sounds good. I am using the wire mesh grille that comes with JL Subs and it seems to protect them well. I don't throw anything that heavy in the hatch area, so i'm not that worried about it. I will try to post some more pics soon. Overall the stereo sounds great.

 

cool man that is exactly how i want mine but with only a 12' maybe. if it means taking out the spare i might not do it as i will be away from home and it will take a vvery long time to get a replacement. is there any way that i could have this type of setup without taking the spare out??!

 

I'm don't think that you're going to be able to install a 12"sub without taking out the spare tire. If you check some of the the threads there are some people that have mounted their subs between the back seat s and the strut brace - it actually looks pretty good and I believe there is a pre-built box for the subs that is available. If you decide to go that route, you'll have room for upto three 12"'s and still have access to your spare tire.

Looks good! I'm going for the "stealth" look also and am weighing the sub placement options. You said you used the JL 500/5. Were did you end up mounting that? I haven't done all of the measurements yet but I wanted to put it in either the factory sub location or glove box and didn't think it would fit.

 

I mounted the amp in the space behind the drivers seat. I took out the Bose subwoofer and there was plenty of room for the amp. Good luck!!!!!
