Default Void in bottom

Raceboy,

What about the void below the deck.. can you use it for storage or is it just a hole?

I tried to have a group buy on the kit but I guess you can get them at CC for $18 now, although I haven't seen anyone else here with it yet. Oh well, at least I already have mine and that was worth the $35 to me!
Does CC mean Circuit City?

I love the finished look of the install. That mounting kit is perfect.

Gotta call them and ask for it, not listed on their website.

Yep - just ordered mine from them too. The guy said "Is there something wrong with the stereo in this car? I'm getting flooded with orders for this dash kit."

Correct, you do not use the trim ring that comes with the HU. You also do not use the cage and you need to remove the spring loaded cage locking clips on both sides of the deck. The kit itself comes with the ISO trim ring.

Nice job!!!

I just talked with my local Circuit City and they ordered my Metra kit this past Wed, he said about a week and I should receive it ($18). The time correction is such a cool and useful feature, I just received my new headunit (Alpine 7998) yesterday and can't wait to use it......plus it has 6-Channel Digital Time Correction, 6-Position Digital Crossover with Adjustable Slope, and 5-band Digital Parametric EQ! I'm amazed at what they can put in radios now.

Thanks again for the pics! Sweet job!

Question

Two more questions, raceboy;

1. Did you disconnect the factory tweeter in the doors?

2. Why did you go with a coaxial up front instead of a set of Infinity seperates with the tweeter mounted in the stock tweeter location?

WahhoO!!!! I got my Metra kit!

I need a wiring kit, but Monster Cable is just stupidly overpriced.

raceboy, does the gap bother you much?

Yes, I disconnected the factory tweets. I actually prefer coaxials because I have always felt that unless you mount the woofer and tweeter close together in seperates that they sound like crap. You can hear the difference times the sounds reach your ears.

wassap guys.

I have an alpine 852 navigation unit w/ an LCD screen.I was thinking re: getting an alpine HU and MP3 changer.

How much better is the sound from that HU vs the BOSE in the toruing Z?

I'm not into crazy loud systems - I'd rather just hear good clean sound myslef than share it w/ the whole neighborhood.

OTOH, I never found HU power to be adequate - so hows the sound?

Did you use the factory wiring for the new coaxial in the doors after you disconnected the tweets?

Also, is the factory 6.5 in the door a coaxial or a mid-bass only?

Sorry for all the questions....I'm just trying to prepare myself using your experience before the car gets here.

Thanks a lot.

I can tell you from taking off the passenger door panel to track down a buzzing noise near the speaker, that the door speakers are a paper coned mid bass only.

Hey raceboy,

How about a pic or two of your iPod setup - curious how that is working out for you as I have an iPod and am thinking of using the AUX port in this way. Using a Transpod setup right now but this is only temporary - playing through the radio just doesn't cut it for something as cool as the iPod!

I have a question you might know about the i pod. does the stock (base) hu have the right connections for an I pod. thanks, kly.

raceboy, I have a question about your ipod. did you get an ai net adapter and connect to the aux channel like the optional dics changer?
do you have full sound when using your Ipod? the reason why I ask is I am using the same hu with an i pod and it sounds horrible. the only control that makes any difference is the I pod volume controler. but the Ipod works fine with any other stereo I use. my guess is I havesome sort of problem with my hu but I thought I would see how yours works. If you could find time to comment on this I would be most appreciated. thanks, kelley.

Raceboy,

What are your Time Correction and Bass Focus settings now that you have the Basslink hooked up?
