i use nero to burn the cd's it has a feature to make a mp3 disc. although im not 100% sure but i think you can just make a data disc with mp3's on it and it should recognize it...

there is no trick i think. it just plays. but yes, either DVD or nav in the 5435.

I kept getting conflicting stories from Eclipse and my dealer that there was or wasn't going to be a tuner for it.
eclipse had to call back the original shipments for a flash upgrade so the dealers that got theirs had to go through a little while while they got them back.
there is a plan for the sirius tuner but this unit has been on delay for so long that they just shipped as it was after QA testing.

System before:
Eclipse CD8061 CD Tuner 16V Balanced pre-outs
Eclipse 5083 CD changer
Kenwood Sirius (connected through Aux in on CD8061)
Diamond Audio D7104 100x4ch
Diamond Audio D7401 400x1ch
DLS Ultimate Iridums 6.3s in custom kicks
Rainbow SL65 coaxials for rear fill (please don't start on pros/cons of rear fill as I have enough experience with all levels of installations to know what sounds best to me)
Adire Audio Koda 10 Subwoofer
All the bells and whistles of the AVN5435 got my attention, but it was the drop from the competition Eclipse CD8061 (copper chassis, balanced pre-outs, no built in amp) that had me worried. Sound quallity was really important and the audio noise floor in my old setup was virtually undetectable at 80% volume on a blank track.
With only one day of listening to the AVN5435, I'm impressed. Still need to get all my gains set on my new amplifier McIntosh MC440 as they are set very conservative at the moment. Then find the best EQ settings between the headunit and MC440 to fit my install. No complaints so far!
If anyone has any questions about the AVN5435, I'll do my best to answer them. I haven't gotten around to really learn the Nav features, so your guess is as good as mine there!
Here's a few pics of the head unit installed.
Enjoy.

ca craftsman, are you saying that if i were to get the 5495 now I would be able to add the tuner later. Cause ive been waiting on the 5495 to come out with the sirius tuner for a long time, and im getting frustrated. thanx

ca craftsman, I don't know what Sirius tuner module you are speaking of. If it's available now, it certainly wasn't when I bought the 5435. (or eclipse did a **** poor job letting the public know about it)
Must say I'm very happy with the 5435 so no regrets about moving from the CD8061!

rplink, do you have a pic of the finished Eclipse changer. I plan to do the same thing, except on the other side I will have the Eclipse 3 MD changer (special order)
Thanks!

Embarrassed to say I haven't. It's mounted in the slot, but I still haven't got around to building a beauty panel for it.
Why did you go MD? Using it instead of an Ipod? That would make sense if you could control it from the AVN5435. That would be sweet.

Does it have digital movement of the screen while the music is playing like winamp has those video effects. You would think they would have something like that to prevent screenburns. And I think it would be cool to have that going in the car to go to the beat of your music.
I've asked this at two audio shop and all they do is look at the brochure and say they don't know.
I'm thinking of getting the 2404 since I already have OEM Nav, $1500CDN: http://www.eclipse-web.com/avx/avx2404.htm
Other then better resolution... can anyone tell me why I should go for the 2494 model instead of the lower resolution 2404?

It's a 6.5" wide dvd screen I don't think the lower resolution is a deal breaker. LOL ;P

No digital movement of the screen. But you can toggle the screen on and off. Found that useful when I took a roadtrip from Chicago to the Outer Banks.
