My Bling Install - Watch It Progress
Hi guys, i dropped my car off at the audio shop Monday morning to get the ICE built
I will update this thread as it gets built. I plan on visiting the audio shop every couple days and will take plenty of pics
This is the list of components going in the car......
Clarion VRX935VD
Clarion DVH920 DTS/Dolby Processor
Clario TV Tuner
Clarion SRK5 Centre Channel Speaker
Custom Metra Dash Kit
MB Quart Q-Line 6.5" front speakers (new addition - see below)
JBL GTi 6.5" rear speakers (moved from front to rear)
Alpine Type X 10" Sub
JBL 160.2 Amp powering front speakers
JBL 320.2 Amp powering sub
JBL 80.2 Amp powering rear speakers
B-Quiet Ultimate Insulation
Custom Unilimted Tuning LED Door Sills + Strut Brace Cover
Custom Leather armrests
Im a bit concerned as its going to be a huge install, a little nervous about stripping the car and that they dont damage any of the interior plastics. They do all the Rockford, MB, Clarion, Hertz, Orion, etc show cars so i can take comfort knowing that
They parked the car at the back of the shop and put a cover over it. They have drop sheets theyll line along the boot so as to not scratch the paint leaning inside
Update:
Went past the audio shop today and theyve already gotten stuck into it.
Theyve removed all the boot trim, percel shelf, doors and centre console, layed the B-Quiet Ultimate sound deadening and ran the power and RCA wires. The installer has even started making my custom dash kit for the centre channel, it looks HOT!!! He's curved the bottom piece and it just looks so high end
But we have a problem, the magnets of my JBL GTi front speakers are just too big, they dont curve in like a normal speaker, but are the same size as the front of the speaker, so it hits the window inside the door. To fit a larger enough spacer means the door trim wont go back on, and even when mounted at an angle it still hits the glass. Now we could either build ugly pods for the doors or a better solution, put the GTi's in the back and put a set of MB Quart Q-Lines up front.......easy!! []
Here's some pics......
Custom Metra dash kit, will be painted gloss silver
Dolby Processor and Clarion Brain Box in factory sub enclosure
TV Tuner and Centre Channel Amp in storage floor

I see someone else also learned how not to pay ridiculous prices for Dynamat and find the home depot identical replacement for a fraction of the cost

oh i wouldnt say it was 'much' cheaper, not after paying the redicilous shipping costs since it was so heavy. It did work out to be around 1/3 the price of a 36ft kit of Dynomat to buy here in Aus
im waiting on the LED Door sills and hatch cover from unlimited tuning, but it should be all finished in 2-3 weeks
im missing the Z, i only had it 3 months before dropping it off at the audio shop for them to keep it another month

I can't remember the name right now but at the Home Depot, you can just go to the windiw insulation section and find that stuff.
To be honest, I can't really remember how much cheaper it was in my case but it was definitely much better than just 1/3 the price. The Dynamat brand is ridiculously expensive and believe it or not, the stuff at home depot does the trick even better. Just make sure you get the one with the silver backing just like in the pics.
If you go to the window insulation isle, you can't miss it.

apparently the brownbread is what i bought from b-quiet.com, they rename it b-quiet ultimate
my installer said it looked pretty good
dynamat is rediculously expensive in Aus, in fact all audio gear is, AUD $1800 for my front speakers alone and a good AUD $7000 for my Clarion deck+tv+dsp.......hell even the Z costs twice as much

Just picked up my custom leather armrests from the trimmer
Black leather with orange stitching to match the seats, and foam padded to make them a bit more elbow friendly

had a leather trimmer here in Aus re-trim the factory armrests
he had to remove the factory vinyl finish though, or else they'll end up too thick on the edges once covered in leather, and wont go back on the door

some more goodies arrived today.....
my LED door sills and hatch cover from unlimited tuning. Great seller, tracking number provided and only took 5 days to come from US
i went past the audio shop to drop these off, dry fit them and they actually look quite good in chrome, it breaks up the silver nicely, so undecided whether im going to paint these flat silver or not
there is a false floor in the car and the sub box is still being built. Ill post some pics when the box and amp rack is complete and in the car

ooooo baby its starting to really shape up now
my installer has basically built the entire boot, and put all the trim panels back together. The MB Quart Q-Lines are in the car and the face panels have already been sent off to be vinyl wrapped
the sub box, amp rack and deck surround were just picked up to be sprayed by the panel beater as i left, so i grabbed a few quick pics on my phone....
the boot floor in the car. notice the wires poking through the strut cover, thats for the unlimited tuning LED piece
the sub box, the face panel has been sent off to be vinyl wrapped. The top will be glassed
Alpine X 10" - this thing has a deep magnet and fills the box completely
Amp rack - amps will be mounted on an angle. The face panel is glass with carpeted edges and is being wrapped atm
