7" screen, Video iPod, and old laptop
Just ordered the screen, got the iPod for christmas and the laptop is 2 years old... muhahahahah Will have pics up when I get the install going. Any tips, tricks? I already have aftermarket H/U and I know I need the 03 cubby. Anyother help?
How are you going to connect the laptop to the screen?
The LCD screen probably has an NTSC composite video input (yellow RCA jack).
The computer probably has a VGA component output (DB-9 connector).
The two don't match so you'll need a converter which will take the RGB+S output of the computer and convert it to NTSC composite.
If you're laptop has composite output you're golden. Some do - the Dell's typically do and come with a small adapter cable.

I'd like to know if anyone is familiar with this screen. I have the fahrenheit screen...but I would like to move to this screen in able to use a laptop with it.
Has anyone used this XENARC 700TSV screen, and does it fit our stock nav location as easily as the fahrenheit screen?
Thanks,
Jason

The screen (Xenarc 700TSV) has two video inputs and 1 VGA input.
It is connected to the laptop and ipod. The ipod I download videos and movies too and play them on there, The Laptop has DVD capability but it would be a hassle to put the dvd in as its on the other side which is why I have the ipod setup which is better anyways cause I can put like 15 movies on the ipod. I have GPS on the laptop too but it uses my cell phone (nextel) as the reciver which is really cool..
THe screen was a pain to install cause the touchplate is a different size than the actual screen but double sided tape helped fis that...
The screen looks cloudy because of the monster flash on my camera but the picture is excellent and the computer picture is as well. Touchscreen is a little funny in the corners but a little tweaking of the setting should eliminate that.

Someone please explain to me why it is important to have the ability to watch a DVD in a car, especially if you dont have kids???
You do not and should not watch it if you are driving and it makes most people sick to their stomch to watch it as a passenger while moving. That leaves watching it while you are not driving and for me, I would rather not sit in a car to watch a movie.
My assumption is that many people must be putting them in their cars for the bling factor. Am I wrong?

Your right, a lot of peopler do it for bling.
I did it mailny for GPS, and for my g/f for the long trips as she brings her laptop to watch movies when we go to vegas or the river. Now she dosent have to lug around a laptop and stuff.

How are you powering the monitor? The fahrenheit I have taps off the +12V from the car stereo.
Same connection for Xenarc?
Also, what GPS are you using and can we see a screenshot of it (or a link to a website where I can see it)?
Thanks,
Jason

For GPS I am useing streetatlas 2005 Right now.
And I am powering the monitor with the cig plug. When I get a chance I will change it to be a direct tap into the power for the cig lighter.

4hr rides in the z is why i want dvdwhile driving, i do alot of night driving and theres not a whole lot on the road, and all you see out the sides is black, EXTREMELY boring, and easier to fall asleep. sometimes music and redbulls just dont get the job done
same here, The dvd ability is just bling factor and for long trips with a passenger. Main reaason i put the xenarc in was so i could go headless in my carputer setup, and use the gps and such. It's also pretty cool using the visualizations .
Oh ok. I thought you had the iPod to the laptop, then it to the display... so (which is why I got interested), I could do the same -laptop. This would be very cool. I am loading my whole CD collection (up to 3951 songs and 19.8Gb so far) into my 60GB Video iPod. I am also downloading a few music videos. So it would be cool to hook it up on the car to have a display... hummm...
