How do you power the laptop? Inverter?

I have a carputer also and had it since i got the car(2003) and at first i was showing it of to people and loved the fact that i dont need any ipods or anything becouse i have everything on my laptop. But then i stoped using the carputer and got an ipod - and it was all that i needed. the idea is cool but its a pain.

You should download the mediacar software for it. Interface screen for the z.

Hey, not to hijack here but I am trying to do the similar thing. I was looking at the XENARC display but it is pricey and I am not sure I need many of the features (TFT?) for what I want.

I was thinking to get a display (7" seems to work for you) just to display the iPod video (no DVD or other things). I keep my BOSE HU and plan to attach the audio to it. So a simple 7" display that takes an S-Vid or Aux Vid is fine.

Why S-Video? I was thinkign to get one of those universal docks for the iPod, and attaching it somewhere in the car. That gives a place to easyly place the iPod. It also gives me connectors for audio, video, power and I can use the apple remote on it. I think it might be as clean as it gets and I can just drop in the iPod and drive away.

So recommendations on

- simple 7"display with aux-vid in or s-vid in welcome
- any problems you might notice with the above idea...

Thanks

Slaponte, Get a touch screen with VGA. Your world will be a lot easier. There is no way you are going to keep your laptop on the car seat if you make a sharp turn. And what if your have a passenger? With touch screen you can hid the laptop for good. What I did with my laptop is I took of the screen so I can reach the power button easily.

I have this same screen in my Z right now with a PS2. I've been thinking about adding the video iPod but didn't know if it was possible. Is that just a matter of plugging in the video iPod in the AV of the screen?

Mostly, yes. The iPod cables give you aux outs for L, R and Video. So any HU with input aux input lines can receive the sound. Any display with aux video in can display. That simple.

I am going with the Farenheit 7" display (cheaper for my needs), aux inputs to the a 2005 BOSE HU I got from a fellow Zer, and the AAC-NIS something or other. All I need are the iPod cables and ready to install.

Hey guys, question : what comes out of the video aux on the iPod??

Becuase I just installed a DLO Homedock at home and it only sends the Photo slideshow to the video. No menu's, no Music Videos...

Is there a setting on the iPod I haven't set right? If I hook up the video output to the Farenheit I was expecting to see everything that comes up on the iPod display (menus, videos, etc)...

You can't get the menus on a seperate display yet. However to enable video...you need to turn on tv out in the settings on the ipod.

Default Monitor where the navigation screen goes...

I have a performance model Z and where the navigation goes, it's just a storage compartment like most of you know. Is there any kind of kit you can get for that so that you can put a monitor in there and the lid isn't in the way???

The lcd is the Farenheit 7" display. Here is one on eBay :

eBay Farenheit

The PAC Niss is the unit to interface to the BOSE HU :

http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pacaainis.html

Notice how it says 2004-2006 350Z... Up to somewhere around 2004.5 this won't work. The BOSE has to have a button that says "RADIO" on it, not "AM/FM".

Lets see, the LCD, The aux input. I have a 2003, so I got an older bOSE HU but you might not need it. Some RCA cables, I used three "barrels" so I can plug and unplug my iPod.... thats about it.

You do not and should not watch it if you are driving and it makes most people sick to their stomch to watch it as a passenger while moving. That leaves watching it while you are not driving and for me, I would rather not sit in a car to watch a movie.

My assumption is that many people must be putting them in their cars for the bling factor. Am I wrong?
when i was in highschool and getting basics done in college alot of people would sit and watch tv in their car during class to class breaks and stuff.. and in a class that i took there was this boy that always talks about how him and his friend smokes weed during breaks (he calls it blazin') and watch porno on it lol

Default The PAC AAI-NIS2 + BOSS HU

Yes, The PAC AAI-NIS2 will let you control your IPOD form the Boss Stock HU. You can also Connect a second Device like a DVD player (Sound) or a stand along XM/Serius Radio receiver. (it comes with a extra AUX input).

I tried on my car and it work just fine. I could control "some" function of my ipod.

how come you did not place th laptop in the glovebox its easy to run the wires under no cutting or anything all you have to do is snake them in and pull them out with two fingers thats how i did my set up i have the laptop sitting in the glove box and then i have another set of wires for the ipod coming out from under the coin holder so if i dont want to us the laptop to watch movies or listen to music i can us the ipod to do both in case you want to take you laptop and do some work on it your ipod can always act as a back up thats what i did with mine. i saw how you placed the board on the back of the screen becareful the board will come a little loose and the connection ribbon to the screen will come off and there goes your pic . i used rubber silicone one mine and siliconed it right to the back of the screen .
