Cool 2007 350z Carputer Installed!

Finished this up a few weeks ago, but never got around to posting it in the Audio section, few people have seen it in my Mid-A Section.

Basically I ripped out all the computer parts from my old setup in my RSX and put them in the Z. The goal as always is to make it look stock. The stock navi buttons actually control the computer now.

Car:

2007 Nissan 350z
Magnetic Black

Hardware:

80gb HD
512mb Ram
Xenarc 700TSV
Carnetix 2140
USB Hub
Various Wires..
GPS BU-353
XMD with custom cable

Software:

Windows XP Pro
Shotgun! - Custom Front End, written by me.
Iguidance 3.1
Lots of fruity Dance Music

Basic Process:

Replaced Stock Headunit with a Pioneer 9800-BT
Mount Screen to 07 Nav Cubby
Run wires (battery, ground, ignition, switches, sound, video, and misc)

Features:

Audio, Video, DVD, GPS, XM, Internet via Sprint Card and more!

Pics:

The Car:

The Computer:

More to come

The install was done at my newly opened shop, Driven Dynamics located in Rockville, MD. www.drivendynamics.com

So let me get this straight............ you had an RSX??!?!??

I saw the thread about your shop a few weeks ago, you posted the pics then. They look pretty cool, but I'm already using that cubby for something else. Good luck to you and your shop.

The Z parts alone were 350ish (Thanks Jen@WestCovina).

Everything else I had from my previous car, the total for those parts were probably over 1g for software and hardware and RnD stuff.

I like this a LOT!!!!!

Any lessons learned?
Any potential upgrade improvements for future installs?
Could you inerface Windows VISTA?
Any Bugs?
Do you have to shut down the PC before you shut off the car?
Does the PC boot up as you turn the car on? or Manual?

This is probably my 5 or 6th carputer install, so it was pretty straight forward.

I'll be upgrading the speakers soon, other than that no upgrades planned.

The Software I wrote, Shotgun!, is actually Vista compatible. So in a sense if I was running vista I could still use it.

All shutdown/startup is done automatically. When the car starts the computer powers on and when the car shuts off the computer gracefully shuts down (goes through the whole shutdown sequence).

I gotta say thats is about as cool thing as I have seen in that spot. I would rather have that than the OEM navi system.

So finally my last part came and I got it all installed today. It was SUPER easy, I did not get the carpc installed or the monitor or anything. But I did get the actual nav cubby installed =)

I'll pm you about the Software, I would REALLY REALLY appreciate it =)
