-Build Log- DVFlyer's stereo Stage 3
I know....
We might get lucky, but I'll basically, be subless for a few months. I'm tempted to put some other subs in there, but I haven't looked to see if any others are similar in size... the one drawback to picking a 13" sub.
But yes, we'll still meet up. I can get a babysitter and we can do dinner someplace or if you run out of time, I'm up for a quick drink/ lunch etc.

T-Nuts???? Oh God...... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (inside joke)
Hmmmm. 13Ov.2's would work nicely.
Would also make for an interesting comparison between the two, no?
Do I hear sponsored review?

This is the first time I've failed at a crazy idea. I don't think the av.2s are going to work
I can get them to fit, but the fact that the real one is going to be slightly larger, the airspace is slightly too small, and the fact that we only have 600 watts per driver, its just seems like a smarter move to go with 13ov.3s right now.
This isn't easy for me to accept
I just spent about 10 hours cutting the box, test fitting, recutting, test fitting etc. I really wanted to make this happen

No worries, Dom.
(v.3 or .2 haven't seen a v.3 on the ed site)
Bing- We're thinking 130v.2's now. IDMax12's take something like 1800 watts....? I'm only going to be putting 600 to each. We could go almost any route right now but the ov.2 seems to be the first choice.

Poor planning, maybe, but I don't regret anything about the amp rack
and sometimes **** like this happens when you try and accomodate for something before you have it on hand.
Dom, you have done a great job so far and I am sure the final product will look spectacular. My installer and I have been down this same road and in the end we ended up with a setup that I am very very proud of. I know you and Mike will do the same.
I remember when Mike told me you guys were looking to get 2 cu ft of airspace out of each box, I thought you guys were crazy. My setup is only 1.25 cu ft and my boxes are pretty big. Obviously, like you stated earlier, the biggest hinderance is the amp rack.
(2) 12"s would do justice in this setup. I look forward to seeing on what you guys decide.

Today I did some work on the tweeters and the kick panels.
Started off by sanding them down all the way. I'm starting at this stage, because they were given to me half done to complete
Then I skimmed it and sanded down again.
Then to see where it was still not right I coated it with primer
This process was completed until they were ready to be wrapped.
Had to help the glue a little bit
from outside
Here they are installed. I'm not 100% satisfied with how they turned out so I'll most likely be rewrapping them tommorow. But it gives you a nice idea of how its going to look. Thoughts on the looks without the grills?
Now for the kicks, mike brutalized these things playing around with tweeter positions so I'm going to fix them. Start off with the glue.
Spray on
Attach fiberglass matt. I would have preffered to use cloth, but I already had this.
Wet
Trim, sand, and fill.
Covered with 1/4" closed cell foam and vinyl. The loose part on the front is covered by a trim piece, and the tab in the back is covered by the dead pedal so it will look perfect when installed.

Then, the same thing was done for the other side.
Thats all for now. I'll post the fiberglass box progress shots once we figure out what we're doing with them.

For the record, I only drilled one extra hole in the kick panel.
Thanks for all this extra work, Dom. Really... it's great.

I'm probably due for an oil change..... Mobile 1 only.
Speaking of extra time. What about the H701? Did you have a new place in mind for that, or were you thinking it will go back in the cubby?

Well as you all know, the 13Av.2s were too manly for me. The replacements came in on tuesday.

I can never get over how good of a job ED's cnc does. Alex went out of his way to get me these quickly, another example of how superb the service is over there.
So now that all the new parts are in, its time to see how they're going to line up.
Next I reinforced the mold, didn't snag any photos but you guys get the idea
After that I needed to do get the proper shape for the boxes. In order to accomplish this I wanted to use the popsicle stick techinique that Ben v.2 used in the kick panel tutorial, only on a larger scale. I decided painters sticks would get the job done.
Home depot doesn't actually sell them, they only give them away for free. I think I abused the privelage
Mike was very adament I used rubber ducky fleece, I tried to explain to him that it won't be visable in the final product but he just wouldn't give.
Box wrapped in it
The result

Keep in mind there are quite a few adjustments that need to be made to the fleece, but I think its finally possible to get an idea of how shes going to look
