BTW anyone know the best way to pint mdf? Sand > Primer > Sand > Paint???
Got to seal it up first... I have heard to use a mixture of wood glue and water to seal... Thats about as much use as I can be but I'm sure a quick google search will come up with something.

WEll i tested this process on a scrap peice and it came out ok but i think it coulde be better. Probably the spray paint sandable primer i use. Think I need something alot thicker maybe some kind of acrylic or something will look up some info and test some more today. BTW sintax for the vinyl u did about how much did it stretch?

I got some 4-way stretch vinyl and used a heat gun, so it stretched a good bit. I checked out regular 2-way stretch vinyl at the fabric store and I couldn't see that being forgiving enough for a first-timer like myself.

This is the stuff I got...Although I was able to find it locally.

paint mdf? i brush resin on it, sand it, mayhbe another layer of resin/bondo mixture, then you can paint it, but not along the side edge, those require a ton of bondo etc etc to seal it up.

whcih piece are you ytrying to vinyl again?

the simple, cheap way to do things is to use the spray on bedline that comes in a can

FEW PICS -UPDATE
Well this weekend has been super busy but got a few things done.
Here is the amp rack so far with nice big hole under the amp for ventilation. Also drilled holes for wires and amp.

BTW forgot to mention - WHEN CUTTING MDF USE THIS! - 2$ AT WALMART AND WORTH IT.

Now to cut the cover to the amp rack which is the part that will have the window in it and the part u see when u look back. Its hard to measure curves to make templates but a trick i use is SILVER solder wire in the plumbing section. Reason for silver is other solder is lead and will get all over ur hands etc and is bad for ur health. This stuff can be bent easlily and holds it shape.

So got a few simple curves cut and a test peice to see where i need to trim etc on my final peice.

Now im off to a good ol cajun crawfish boil!! More to come.

K well after too many beers didn t get much more done this afternoon. Did make a few more peices to test some things out. Prob have to wait till next weekend to get a big 4'x8' board of mdf to make final piece. I have been using smaller 2'x4' boards. After I get final peice cut and plexi glass window installed. Need to decide on vinyl, carpet, or maybe something else i have in mind. Subs should be in this week and need to order some led lighting for amp well area. Bleh I know im slow on this install but i havn't done this in about 5-6 years so pretty rusty.

You should put a fuse on that power line right off the battery just in case something gets through the insulation. You dont want your car to burn down. (Maybe you have one behind the battery i am not seeing.) Just a thought though.

Small update. Sry guys for slow progres but 50-60 hr work weeks suck. Plus had a few weekend trips out of town. Ended up buying a Zenclosures 2 10" understrut box cause if i did build I would have been building the same exact thing. Got my subs installed and actually got the amp hooked up so i can listen. Sounds good. Palns are this weekend to get alot more done with a buddy of mine. Hope we get as much done as we plan.

UPDATE - PICS

Well today was prob one of the more productive day in this long build (sry guys i know im slow)

Got the curve perfect and the top peice cut.

Figured out the angles to make these two peices mate together

Had some curves and stuff to deal with to get that top small strip to fit just right. Took some work on the ends.

What it looks like so far when u look back

Cutting and fitting the plexi window

Tommorow will finish sealing plexi window and counter sinking screws etc and attach top to amp box. To be continued....
