Compatible subs for Kenwood 7204
Hey all,
So I'm having a problem on figuring out which subs to match my Kenwood amp. I'm most likely going to have to run duals and in that case I'm planning to run dual 10s. The ones I'm thinking of getting are the Rockford Fosgates P3s.
However, I was told by best buys this set-up wouldn't work since my amp is too "powerful." What about if I run two in series or parallel, would that help at all? The enclosure I'm gonna get if I do run with this set up is this. Wanted to see other people's opinions on whether or not this amp and sub set up would
come out right. Thanks!

Why are you saying you will probably have to run dual subs?
RE: the Best Buy kid telling you that your amp is too powerful for that sub, he's full of crap. That sub is rated for 400wrms, so your 500wrms amp is pretty much a perfect match. A little overhead is a good thing for CLEAN deep sub bass. BUT, you don't want the dual 4ohm configuration......see below.
Your amp has the following rating, right from the Kenwood USA site:
250 Watts x 2 (2 ohm) / 500 Watts x 1 (4 Ohm Bridged)
So you will want to find either:
1 x dual 2ohm coil sub rated for 500wrms, wire in series to 4ohms
or
1 x dual 8ohm coil sub rated for 500wrms, wire in parallel to 4ohms
or
1 x single 4ohm coil sub rated for 500wrms
or
2 x single 2ohm coil subs rated for 250wrms each, wire in series to 4ohms
or
2 x single 8ohm coil subs rated for 250wrms each, wire in parallel to 4ohms
Or there are also configurations using 2 x dual coil subs, but the wiring can get tricky if this is your first install.
In the Z, I think 1 x 10" sub is sufficient for everyday listening. I feel you are better served buying ONE great quality sub than two cheap subs.
