Complete JL Audio installation - factory head unit
Hi all -
After nearly 5 days and a lot of cut fingers, I'm only one component away from finishing my JL Audio stereo installation. The only hold-up I've encountered has to do with how the Cleansweep interfaces with the factory BOSE amp. I learned the hard way that the factory amp significantly splits the frequencies between the front, rear and subwoofer outputs. I need a signal summing interface to resolve that issue. I have one on order that should arrive in the next couple of days, after which I'll start posting my install photos (there are a lot of them) along with some commentary on what's involved in a full sound system install that maintains the factory head unit, along with Bluetooth and satellite radio. Here are the components that are in my system:
JL Audio Cleansweep CL441-dsp
JL Audio CleanSweep CL-SSI
JL Audio C5-650 front component speakers
JL Audio C2-650x rear coaxial speakers
JL Audio 10W1v2-4 subwoofer in Zenclosure custom corner box
JL Audio G1300 Monoblock Full-Range Amplifier
JL Audio G2250 Two-Channel Full-Range Amplifier
JL Audio A2150 Two-Channel Full-Range Amplifier
JL Audio RCA connectors
Scoche Power Cables
16 gauge O2-free speaker wire (14 gauge on subwoofer)
Custom Amp Rack
Zenclosure front speaker mounts
Since I don't need to worry about signal summing to run an auxiliary device into the CleanSweep, I can hear what the factory stereo will more or less sound like after the SSI is installed. All I (and everyone else who's heard it) can say is WOW.
Here's what I put into my car:

no, hes making an educated observation
for the price of the clean sweep stuff (which isnt that good) you could have gotten a AudioControl DQXS (far superior to CS stuff)
amp wise, could have gotten some Alpine PDX amps (much smaller than the jl's you purchased and much cleaner power)
rear coaxials.... waste of money, you dont need rear fill in a Z, its a damn 2 seater
sub.... could have gotten much better SQ and output out of a set of 8's rather than the single bottom rung JL sub
14g wire on the sub.... im running 8awg to my sub, i save the 14g wire for my tweeters and midrange... 12g on my midbass
all of the money you spent on this..... well lets just say, if you asked some of the people who are familiar with these products and make a living doing car audio you could have come out with a system that sounds 3x as loud and 3x as clear for about 2/3 of what you spent

yes yes i hear it everyday.. recently i've been compared to a scammer.. a two faced turn coat and various people.. here is my response
he can't take my title, because i've never done anything close to this magnitude or done anything to scam, physically hurt or lie to anyone on this forum.. matter a fact my title is so great i've gained it by only using words to hurt people's feelings over the internet.. thats how powerful this title is and that man is not even in my league

JL is so overpriced. Sure they make some nice stuff but for the money there is better out there. Your paying for the name and the right to put a JL Audio sticker on your windsheild. What maters is the op is happy and Im sure he will be, just not as happy as he could have been.

I used to dream of having a full JL Audio setup system. Grew out of it once I knew there was bigger and better for less money. But if he has the money why not, although there are better the equipment he chose aren't too bad. Much better then running some pyramids or sony xplodes at the very least.

While I agree with some that your choices of product are questionable I will not judge you or your choices.
JL makes decent quality products. There are A LOT worse products out there that you could have chosen. There are better hoewever but thats not the point. Hopefully you paid some decent prices on this gear.
Some of my customers want to have a competition sound system but would not even think of replacing the head unit. Aesthetically, it is a good choice as it does go well with the car. performance-wise? Meh, its got a decent D/A converter so it'll sound ok.
Not a fan of JL components but this is an objective issue. If they sound good to you then that is all that matters right? The Cleansweep product is of decent quality but I find it is pricey for what it is. Still, it will do the job and by no means is it junk.
I would like to encourage you to do your best installing this stuff as install is very important! take some pictures and show them to us. Take your favorite CD and tell us how your imaging, tonal balance and staging is.
