my ghetto setup!!!
This is odd... I thought my first post here would be something different. Oh well.
I gotta say, I go t a kick out of this post. I thought it to be entirely comical. Then I started thinking back to the days when I worked for a shop where we built IASCA, TOW and other competition vehicles. As an update, I now help a buddy out where we build custom 4x4 vehicles from the ground up. Back on topic...
We would often take enclosures that were the exact size airspace for a given sound and place them in different locations and orientations in the vehicles so we could learn the dynamics of that vehicle... each vehicle is different, even among the same model with different interiors. After careful evaluation and some levels of compromise, we would end up with a system that not only pleased the customer, but also pleased the judges for the level at which the owner competed. This attention to detail is expensive, though, when you are writing a check.
When i went to do my own vehicles, it was often tempting to run around for a few days with the temp setups and see just how I liked it with all different situations and music. In the end, though, sensibility won out and I would perform a correct install.
While I cannot and do not condone this person leaving their system in this state, I can smile at the amusement they have created with the first line of the post... "check out my ghetto install." That title was that whole reason I clicked the thread.
I do admit, some criticism is in order and, hopefully the owner will eventually clean up the install.
I have now had a good laugh and hope to see this person's system grow and shine in the future.
Commenting on the placement/firing direction of the speaker...
When you fire the driver toward a body panel (most often the rear door or glass) you are experiencing a phenom called "cabin gain." This is most evident in hatchback vehicles with a large piece of glass. This gain will increase the sound of bass frequencies with the need for lower wattage to the drivers. However, for clear and tight bass response on music other than electronic bass, a forward facing driver will typically give you better results for the same airspace and wattage. Of course, we could go into airspace and its effects on bass response, but I am trying to keep apples to apples.
See ya around.

Why, you ask? Because he made the sound system in his car sound TONS better than the factory sound system or even the "premium" factory BOSE system. AND he did it for considerably less money than many people have paid for that highly overrated and overpriced factory BOSE.
I like his setup. Why, you ask? Because he LISTENED to the system and decided subwoofer placement based on how it best SOUNDED to him . . . NOT how it looked or how many *ucking neon lights he could surround it with. Unless, any of you have actually HEARD his car, how can you intelligently comment on his SOUND system. AND he already said the subwoofer placement is temporary, until he finds a place more convenient to his passenger, but that still sounds good to him.
Enough said? If anyone would like to challenge the validity/intelligence of my arguments . . . bring it on. Oh, by the way, I AM an MD.

As for the 5K remark. It's no secret what I paid for my audio system. It's been posted before. But the point was to applaud chia for doing what he did with the money that he spent, and to make the point that much can be done to improve this automobile's sound system without breaking the wallet.
As for the MD remark . . . again no secret . . . look at my avatar. But the point here was jest . . . if you had read the WHOLE post, you would see where chia had remarked earlier about not being an MD, . . . get it now?
Catch up before you reply, newbie.
Man, that's worse then when I had to put down the back seat of my 240 to fix my 2x12 MTX Blue Thunder subs! LOL.... That lasted about amonth, before they got replaced with a set of Boston 10.5s
But, if the box don't fit, you must a quit.

This is Bad. If you don't like the Bose Stereo System there are some many better ways to install a new system then the little box ---- you created. Between the stereo system, your seat covers and whatever else you have in mind you could very well ruin this car.
MSGarret, you are absolutely correct. I have spent a total of $650 to upgrade my system(including installation):
(Ebay purchases)
Pioneer 550 HU $150
Infinity 6000s Components $100
Infinity kappas 62.5i $60
Kenwood 4-channel 600W amp $120
Infinity Basslink $150
It looks great and sounds amazing, without breaking the bank.
