Rallitec Qwik Shifter
Hello all, yesterday I finally had a chance to install the famous Rallitec Titanium Qwik shifter as read about in the my350z forums and I will share some thoughts for those who care.
The install was easy, the hardest part was actually getting under the car to undo the gear selector coupling. It's not easy when you are 187cm tall and 95 kg to fit under such a low car, and yes I did have it jacked up.
A tip for anyone who is going to do this, jack up the passenger front and you will get the best access to the rear of the gearbox.
Anyway, the actual gear change is exceptional. It is very qwik (hence the name I suppose) and oh so precise. It is very much IMO worth the money. It wont give, obviously HP, but it makes the car so much easier to drive, the gear change is short and sharp.
There have been some issues with noises after installing and yes I have a very slight (hardly noticeable) rattle at about 4k rpm. Dweeb is sending me a new modifed control socket he assures me will remove all rattling. I will keep everyone posted on this.
If you've got a spare $500 or so it is, providing the rattle is gone, a very worthwhile mod.
regards

Matthew if yoy play your cards right you might even see it up close and personal on Sunday. The only drama is all this rain, even nice cars look shitty in the rain.
Jim, a qwik shifter is basically a gear stick that changes the fulcrum point and makes the "throw" from gear to gear shorter and therfore quicker. I am not a professional in this area so if I havent explained this well enough shoot me.
If you want to read about it go to www.rallitec.com and click on the 350z qwik shifter icon.

i'd love to see that quick shifter on Sunday... i've been thinking about it for some time now.
From memory it lowers the throw from 4.5in to 2.7in... thats amazing on paper... hope you'll let me move it around to have a look (stationary of course :P ).
man, i'm really looking forward to Sunday now

Zuf, no worries champ you are more than welcome to have a fiddle.
Jim, I forgot to answer the why bit of your question. The only "logical" reason I suppose is that it enables you to change gears a whole lot quicker.
To quote a famous man, "if you have the means I highly recommend you get one" (or something like that anyway).
Other than the weight difference Im not sure why it has to be made of titanium though, just like the stocker you cant actually see it as the boot and **** cover it up. I suppose it just comes down to the "trick bit" factor of it.
I know you can also buy a SS version of the shifter that is apparently heavier than OEM, I havent noticed the Ti one being lighter though. Mind you I have only had the car a week and have only done about 500kms.
as always
